New Sub newbie help

Hi, I'm new to these forums, but I thought I'd come and check it out.

I want to make a sub.

My budget is 300 (make it dollars), so I was thinking a 12" with dual coils and a JBL GTO75.4 II (there off priced at 150 here). Are there any good subs out there?

I was thinking about a sony XS-LD125P5 sub.

If anyone has any suggestions, they'd be really welcome.

I'm losing my mind with all these enclosures. So I propably need a good speaker to get started.

Id recommend somthing reliable. Check out the MTX 5500 in a 12 inch and find a cheap amp, run at least 500 watts to it and it will shake your mirrors till next January for sho.

Profile makes some cheap amps, pioneer also has some cheap ones out there now... search around.

Make the box yourself if you can, otherwise buy a speaker specific box if you got the cash. Sealed boxes are always a great price alternative.

There is an MTX for a bargain too at the same store, but I don't know if it's a double, cos the amp is a 4 channel (bridge to 2 channels, then drive a double spooled). Then it cranks out 284*2 Watts RMS.

I was allready planning on making a housing myself. Just need to find some 22mm (0.86") MDF somewhere, stupid DIY store only has 18 (0.7").

Aha, well I just got one of their car radio's. They don't seem to bad.

Hey dude .7" MDF will be fine for that sub. I use .75" MDF and my sub is getting around 900W, .7" will hold up fine if properly built.

yeah, .7 is fine

you'll be much happier with the mtx than with the sony

would have been cheaper to run a mono or 2 channel amp though most likely
