well guys, i was out of the caraudio game for a while, but now i realized i cannot deny that i have to have bass, and lots of it. and i want to do up a new system. i want to have a single 12 and i would like some suggestions on what subs. here is what a sub has to be. dual 4 ohm coils, 300 rms or over, spl based, about 100-150$ us. i wanna put it in a ported box. some subs that i am looking at are the kicker comp vr 12, orion xtr 12, and any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

The Comp Vr would be the way to go.

great thanks a lot. but still about the enclosure, i designed one using winISD specific for the comp vr, it looks good to me but i am a rookie in building and designing ported enclosures. it is tuned to 35 hz, and i want to bring the port out of the box to extend into my rear deck of my car, will this work, some say that the box doesnt care if the port is outside the box, and others say that it doesnt matter what you add on to the port outside the box, as long as the proper port is on the inside. will someone set me straight?

I have no personal experience with extended ports but I have seen and heard plenty that were great.

yeah, my friend did an experiment with that same subject the other day with two boxes and the same sub. i heard no difference.

did he bring the original port outside the box, or did he just add on to it outside the box?

he made two boxes, one with the port going all the way in and the other box with about half the port out and half in (he used pvc pipe that screwed together). we played his sub in both boxes with the two different ports the same length and i couldn't hear a difference, but i dont have any gadgets to say if there were differences in frequencies and what not. i just know that it sounded fine to me.
