New Head Unit, Need help please?

Hello,

This afternoon I installed a new Kenwood head unit (KMM-BT308U) into my 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt. It has the Mach 460 Stereo System in it. (I also have a Rockford Fosgate Amp and 2 P3's for it, but I have not installed them yet.) Anyways, I added that in, along with the Metra 70-5701 Receiver Wiring Harness. Everything works great - even the Bluetooth - except for one thing. No matter what I do, I have ZERO bass. No matter what I play through it, it sounds terrible. There is absolutely no bass at all. I am not an expert in car stereos, so I have no idea what my problem is. Is it simply I paired a few wires together wrong? or they came lose as I put everything back together? Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Read through the manual of Head unit. There is alot to learn from it and sometimes can have little pieces of information that help a lot. Could be a low pass filter in the headunit that is cutting off bass frequencies. If you have a LPF and its above 70, then thats why not your getting bass. Wiring wont have anything to do with bass. Your either getting a signal to them or your not.

So you are saying if I can figure out what the LPF is, I need to figure out how to lower it? because the sound coming through it is too low so the LPF stops it? is that what you're saying? or am I completely off base?

ok. 20-60hz is your subwoofer frequencies. Thats the car rattling good stuff. 60-250 hz is your midbass. Thats your drums and chest thumbing kind of bass.

speakers arent meant for low bass. Subwoofers are. Install your subwoofers.

my guess is that your stock speakers simply cant play bass notes. I listened to alot of dubstep music before i ever had any kind of aftermarket car audio stuff installed. Installed some subwoofers and everything changed. Speakers dont do bass notes well or at all. Install your subs. youll get what you want.

I was just trying to figure why I had no bass. Because the stock speakers are Mach 460s I think. And they gave off pretty good bass just for being stock speakers. Then after I added in the new head unit I had absolutely no bass. Didn't make any sense to me.

Your stock HU was tuned for that equipment and car. This one is not. Also if you are using HU power the stock probably had a bit more. It could be as simple as a filter turned on to high

Just start messing with different options in your headunit. Your bound to figure it out.

its entirely possible that your old stock stereo had the bass cranked up. Thats where you get dirty sloppy distorted bass but maybe turn your bass up a little and see if that remedies your problem.
