New guy, have a question about amps....

hey everyone, I am so glad I found these forums! I have an alpine headunit and front and rear alpine type s or type r door speakers (can't remember, it has been awhile since I had them installed). I am looking to purchase 1 alpine 1243d 12 inch sub. I was wondering which amp I should buy to support the front and rear speakers, and the sub? also, should I get a bass reconstruction module?

thank you everyone in advance for any help you can give me!

well i mean you need one for bass and one for the mids and highs. i would get a 4channel amp and hooking them all like that. is that what you wanted to get?? and well theres some pretty decent amps for that price you could even afford two amps easily with that price range that your willing to spend

Ok, so on a larger vehicle, you inherently have more road noise, specifically in an SUV. Therefore you need a little more power than you'd need in say a medium or small sedan. With the speakers you mentioned, you'd be best off looking for an amp that makes 100w per channel @ 4 ohms and whatever power is needed for your sub @ the appropriate impedance on the 5th channel. Or you can purchase a 4 channel amp that makes 200 watts RMS per channel @ 2 ohms. That allows you to put wire all your right door speakers together on the right front channel and all your left door speakers together on the left front channel and leaves the rear two channels to bridge on the sub as a 3 channel setup. That's if you don't need or use the fader for your mids and highs ( like 99% of people out there ).

That also allows you to use your fader as the subwoofer level control.

imo just go with two different amps it'll sound better
Why's that? Because 2 is more than 1?

If anything, it's the opposite...and the OP will save money on additional power wires. If you have a 50w X 4 amp and a 200w mono and compared it with a 50 X 4 + 200 x 1 5ch amp, the 5ch amp will usually sound better and have more balls. This has been the case with every 3/5/6ch amp I have ever come across.

Because of your subwoofer impedance configuration, as mentioned just above, you'd be best off looking for either a rare 3 channel amp that has a 2ohm stable rear channel or a 5 channel amp with a 2ohm stable 5th channel.
