there big 3k sub the exo

DSC_0044.jpg
the strato the ones in the video

basket on the exo looks like the runa the mill 12 spoke custom sub basket everyone else uses, and the basket on the strato just looks sorry, more like a home speaker or dj? theres mids out there with more sturdy/ impressive ones

Who gives a **** if they did use the same basket everyone else uses. If it turns out to be a good driver and the 12 spoke basket keeps the cost down what is the downside? Its obviously a proven design.

Calm down i wasnt bashing just stating a fact im a fan of the 12 spoked and yes they are very good baskets

yeah but for something that only requires 350rms you dont need a super strong basket
this is also true but in my opinion i think if your going 18" i see a high performance driver not something with a low rms like that but if it works it works i guess

Okay, I'll start here.

The 18" subwoofer in question is 350w rms. Now, with 350w rms, do you honestly think you need anything other than a stamped basket? Sure, the owner could use a 6 spoke like most of the other people out there, but the cost would increase significantly. The 18's are more or less designed for people who, well, want 18's. The Strato 18's as pictured/in the video have an FS of 26hz and the company was doing basic testing in a small box to see how they did - considering they were in 6^ft net, I dont think it was all that bad. Now, you want to see your "easily" 46's? Dont put them in 6^ft at 30hz, put them in a 9^ft box for the pair at 38hz like everyone else and you'll see those overly large gains like you want. Like I said, the video was posted to prove that the woofers will still get down in even the smallest of environments.

The company is, in fact, SQ oriented, like Mobeius said.

The Exo 15. Sureeee, it's a 12 spoke design. I can name a million other companies that use it. In fact, most companies use it somewhere in their lineup. Anyways, as stated somewhere up there, its to keep the cost down. As with any company, a custom basket could be tooled to make it "look" cooler and add minimal gains, but unless you(and the rest of the users) would like to pay 100-150 dollars more a woofer I just don't see the point in doing that? Custom tooling isn't cheap ha

If they are geared towards SQ I find it funny that they would be showing off their 18. Not too many true SQ guys running a pair of 18's
There are more out there than people seem to think. Size of the subwoofer has nothing to do with sound quality.

SQ based? Did they start with something besides subwoofers ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If it's SQ oriented you should post an RTA plot from 90 down to 20hz. If your "testing" a 60hz tone only did 140 why even post the video. The point is unless it's a 50$ sub there's a lot better ways to get 140 @ 60hz.

Take videos of these things in their correct application performing well for that application. That video isn't helping.

^^^ I'm with Ryan here. Seems fishy to me. Anyway, I guess I wouldn't mind trying one of those 18's off of 600rms to see what it does. It looks like they flex that van pretty easily. If the price is right, who knows??

I think he's just referring to "sq guys" not needing that much output. I know I get plenty out of my single 10 and 500 watts, don't need to push it past 3/4-1" p2p excursion most of the time.

Agreed, that'd be a better vid to show.

I did 143.6 with a w7 in a trunk car @ 46 hz.. and 144.8 with 2 dc lvl3s.. Both setups with 1000 rms.. More than likely less tho after rise and voltage drop..

Not to impressed by the #s OP
I've seen a 145.5 out of the trunk of a grand prix with a 13" w7 and jl1000.1

your talkin about loudness .... people in SQ use 18's in other ways then loudness ....... a 18 with 300rms can fill a cabin better in the sub 30hz range better then a 10" with 300rms any day of the week given the same build qualities ..

^ true but all the award winning sq installs use 1 or 2 small subs because you dont need but 120dbs in bottom octive.

the subs MAY be good just a really poor install.

whats the msrp?

the fact is subs have came a long ways over the last couple yrs and a well designed 10" can displace more than a 18" from 15 yrs ago, and who wouldnt want to have more cargo room and less weight to drag around. ya have to have something special this day and age to make it in a market that has gone down hill over the last few yrs...

SQ competition gets used way too often as an example to follow for daily systems. SQ competitions are judged at low volume levels (I know the norm use to be 126 db, I dont know if that's changed recently). An award winning SQ setup may fall flat on its face in daily use as the 'ground pounder' most daily listeners tend to prefer. Just like for SPL setups, lessons learned from SQ competition installs must be taken with a grain of salt when translating those conclusions and techniques over into a daily system.

If you have the ability to tune it well (EQ, xover, etc), having too much cone area is almost never going to be a problem for a SQ situation. 'Headroom' is a concept that applies to speaker excursion as well, not just amplifier potential.
