I'm looking into buying a different car. I have a 98 camry right now. I don't have a whole lot more money to work with...8500 is my max to spend (not in addition to selling my current car, but total). Right now i'm lookin at 99-02ish VW passat's and Jetta's. They seem to be the most fitting thing in my price range. I want something more fun to drive and a little less grandma'ish. Want a manual transmission for sure. Wondering wut everyone thinks of these cars and if anyone's got some suggestions. It has to be practical (able to sit 4 people and have some room to haul shit around as i'm leaving for college next fall). Suggestions? Comments??

Get the 4.7 V8 instead of the hemi and you can bump that gas to 23 mpg

yah what 4.7 are you driving? because my 4.7 v8 2000 JGC limited is getting like 16 mpg

**** son. I have an 03 Quad cab Ram with the 4.7 and get 23 hwy out of it. Ditch the factory muffler.... its WAY to restrictive ... I noticed an instant 1.8 mpg HWY increase. the best i have seen in a 80 mile run is 24.1 mpg running 60

Jettas are good cars as long as you take care of them. If something breaks on it though, then have fun with that price tag.
