New Blowthrough- JBL W12GTis, ID Horns, Premier amps

doesnt it **** to have to mod the doors?
im havin trouble fitting 6.5s in my blazer.

FG gives it such a clean look. nice work man.
Yeah, but it's a cool project at the same time. I am jealous of the guys who can put 8s in their doors stock, like those with Dodge Rams, Infiniti G35, and others, but I made do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif What year is your Blazer? They should come stock with 6.5" locations for mids.

So, longest week of my life doing these **** panels, but I finally finished them up. After looking at the mold seen in the previous pics, I didn't like the look of all the sharp dips and corners toward the back of the panels. So I took grill cloth, stretched it over the entire panel with the rings on to give the panels a better contour, and resined the cloth, then a layer or two of filler over those and sanded them down smooth. This is my first ever attempt at something like this, and I'm not much of an upholsterer, but I am really pleased with the results. I will be using a pair of the JL IB4 8" grills that I just bought from quality_sound to insert into the holes. They should pressure fit right in. Anyway, here is the finished product:

I'll be installing them today or tomorrow. They bolt in from the back through the existing panels via T-nuts that were embedded in the first few layers of glass. Should take about 10 minutes. Thanks for looking!

Thanks man! Here it is bolted to the existing door panel. I did them two-tone to set off the new panels a bit:

It looks like my manual window crank is going to have a little competition... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I may have to find some stubby ones somewhere. I'm headed out now to install them and see if the cranks hit.

Very nice build!! Would you mind posting some pics of where and how the horns are installed? I have only recently heard about horns (still a relative noob to car audio) and want to see where people install them. Thanks in advance.

Sure. They are level with one another, parallel with the edge of the dash. I used little aluminum bars that I bent and drilled holes in to hang them. This is pretty common with horns.

Here is the passenger side next to the JBL 2118:

Here they are from the driver's side door, level with the horns:

And here they "aren't" from the driver's side window:

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I've thought about making grills for them, but they are pretty well out of the way, so I may just leave them how they are.

Any pics/updates? Your build is very nice...really liking the how the doors are turning out, makes me want to glass the doors in my ranger.

So, the JBL 2226G build has finally begun! Not sure that this will be ca.com's cup of tea as it were, but these will match up very well to my 8s and horns. I was able to find a blown pair of 2226H and had fresh factory recones done on both to "G" drivers, so they are now 4 ohm. The work turned out great, and the woofers look fantastic. The drivers:

Next to a 2118: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

For the enclosure, I used 1" MDF. Each woofer will have a net 5ft^3 tuned to 40hz and 80in^2 of port area. A friend of mine works for a sign shop and so we used his table router to cut out the enclosure today. It is not glued/nailed yet as it will have to be built into the bed somewhat, but here are a few pics of it set up together:

It will be spaced off the front of the bed 3" and comes in 5" on each side about 1/3 back to accomodate the wheel wells. It will be anchored down the same way my previous enclosure was, with carriage bolts through the bed, but will have several more toward the rear of the enclosure. And plenty-o-bracing. Power will come from a T1500-1bd with the horns and 2118 run off two T400-4 dual mono. I will post more pics as the build progresses, and hope to have it wrapped up within the next week and a half or so. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Let me guess, you have a thing for really efficient drivers??

I've got a set of horns here waiting to go in, Celestion 1" drivers with ID mini bodies, I'm so stoked to put these suckers in.

looks clean great job any vids?
None yet as I have not finished the install. I doubt this will do any hair tricks but it should get loud. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

nice shop. nice having the right tools huh?
It definitely comes in handy. He's a great friend to lend his time and resources. Sure beats the shit out of a jigsaw! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Whatever gave you that impression? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif They definitely make good use of the power they get. The concert-like impact is difficult to beat (for me). Once you get those horns installed, you may find it difficult to go back to conventional drivers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
