New Blowthrough- JBL W12GTis, ID Horns, Premier amps

Thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Sorry... haven't been around in awhile. TheLow- I have had great luck with the 2000SPL, and I would say it does at least rated power. It was a little pricey as I bought it new, but wanted to stay with Premier amps. I had previously strapped two PRS-D1100Ms to two TS-W2502SPLs. This setup definitely has a lot more output.

As far as vids go- this wasn't an SPL build. The subs do get loud when encouraged to do so though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I am actually in the middle of changing a few things:

9835 has been replaced by a W200- looking for an H701 ASAP.

18Sound 6ND430 are being replaced by 8" drivers (possibly 18Sound) that will be in the doors with the panels glassed around them.

Updates/pics to come //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So it's been a few months since any updates. After having to cut my panels to house the 18Sound mids, I promised I'd eventually bump up to 8" drivers. A few weeks ago, I ordered a pair of B&C 8NDL51. New MDF rings and bases were made for them, and the panels were cut to fit. After kicking around several ideas for a grill, I decided to try my hand at fiberglassing. I've never done any glass work before, so it's been a learning experience, but I feel the idea has turned out pretty well. The new "grills" aren't completely done yet, as I have a lot more sanding/prep to do, but they should be complete by the end of the week. Here is the idea:

The area outlined in black will be the new piece made from fiberglass, and wrapped in black vinyl:

Here is the hole cut in the panels to get the 8" drivers to fit:

The idea was/is to mold a piece, then raise out a ring around where the mids reside, and have grills that I made from MDF rings/grill cloth pressure fit inside the holes. Here are pics so far:

Prep work:

First few layers of glass:

Mold removed from door panel:

A bit of Evercoat Rage filler applied:

Second layer:

Some more Rage and sanding:

Now that the piece is starting to take shape and gain strength, the edges and excess are trimmed off:

Test fit over door panel with hole cut for mid:

Here, I wrapped the MDF ring/grill with cardboard, then wrapped that with tinfoil and sprayed it with Pam, then taped in in place from the back and started building up the area with Kitty Hair:

Here is the molded area, partially sanded with the grill sitting inside the ring:

There is a lot more prep/sanding to do before they get wrapped, but I am happy with the way they've turned out so far, especially considering I've never done glass before. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

They are secured to the existing door panels via T-nuts. We cut slits through pieces of fiberglass mat, pushed the T-nuts through, then inserted them in holes drilled through the panel before we started laying down mat. This secured them in place and they will be bolted in from the back side of the stock panel for a (hopefully) seamless look. More to come this week!

It's an '03- just about the last of the S10s before the Colorado came out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Lies. My mom has an 05 Blazer.

I don't think I will cut my truck up though. I'd just hate to weld it all in again.

Have you test fitted the 8s yet? Any problems clearing the window stuff?

No problems at all. The 8s have been in for a week or so in their new pods. These fiberglass grills are simply for aesthetics. They clear with no problem. I had to make new rings and a base for them obviously, so I made sure they cleared. Honestly, the 8s I'm using aren't any deeper really than most 6.5" mids, so the pod is not sticking out any farther than the stock one did. It's just a larger diameter.

George- thanks for the compliment!

What is the depth of your 8s?

I may try to do something similar, I don't know if I can glass my doors though.

I don't understand how to make a MDF baffle that bolts to the S10 door, it has that funny riveted on plastic piece.

That's an easy fix: Get a drill, and drill out the rivets. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif That plastic piece is GONE. Has been for a long time. I used it to trace the base onto MDF, and cut out a piece that has the same footprint, then made MDF rings to fit the 8s. The base actually needs to be bigger than that plastic one if you are going to run 8s- I traced it when I ran the 18Sound mids. The depth on the B&C mids is 3.5".

awsome build mate, welldone........
did you like the tsw2502spl subs? (off track abit i know)
Thanks. Yeah, I really liked them actually. They performed very well in a vented enclosure off ~600w/ea. Just sold them to bigbangtheory. His turn to enjoy them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
