New and need some advice

Hi, I just found this forum while trying to figure out what to do about the stereo in my 04 Durango.

Currently it is the stock system (not the Infinity). The head unit is pretty well toast, it basically works when it wants to. I have between $200 - $300 to spend. I'm wondering what are my best choices for this money? Should I get a bit higher end head unit or should I go a bit lower on the head unit and replace the speakers also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can supply manufacturers and model numbers it would even be better.

Check out the Kenwood KDC-X693(160ish shipped - ebay) and KDC-X993(same as 693 w/ bluetooth 200ish shipped - ebay) With your budget, you can get better. But if you don't really wanna spend all of that, check those out. I have the 693 and it's a real nice unit in general, especially when compared to other 160 dollar units out there. I'd stick to Eclipse, Kenwood Excelon, Pioneer Premiere, and Alpine.

Thanks for the quick reply, I really like the KDC-X993, but the folks at Crutchfield recommend not using a flip down face in my Durango due to clearance issues. Any idea of this is really a problem? Should I stick with just a HU or should I look at some speakers to replace the stockers also?

I had an eclipse in the past and loved it, but keep in mind, I think they recently went out of business, so not sure if there are any means of customer support if you need anything down the road. Ive heard they were bought by fugitsu, but dont quote me on that.
