More importantly you just need to pay attention to where you run the wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Wire is pretty well protected in the engine compartment from collision damage as long as you keep it away from heat. Fusing at the alt is overkill. As long as you install the wire properly away from heat, the only cause for concern is the battery. If in a collision, the vehicle will shut off (killing the power from the alt) but the battery will still be live. 1 fuse on the bat side and you're safe.

thankfully no one was hurt and your stuff is still good. Gotta get it fix asap, don't hold it off cause you never know when the next time it wants to **** up on you and this time it ****s up everything.

i had a co-workers son come up to me one day with amp problems cause his inline fuse kept popping w/o knowhing why. upon 15 seconds of having me inspect his wiring i found that his 8ga wire was laying onto the headers with the wire jacket completely melted. good thing his car never went upin smoke though

next tiem be more careful. zip-ties ftw.

i dnt think itll smoke up anymore..i wrapped it in electrical tape and the engine is cold as hell

Obviously just don't drive it until you replace that run of wire and route it through a new location. I would not reuse that run of wire.

You must be in a fairly rural place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I have several shops around me that sell it by the foot. It's nice for instances like these. I still buy my bulk runs online, though. Much cheaper.

we only got one place that sells tru 1/0 and its 15 a foot...i ordered some a few weeks back stil laint here..i need fuses and fuseholders now

if it makes you feel better i did something like that. i was taking the bolt off my alt to put on the + wire of the big 3 and the socket hit the arms for my windshield wiper. lol pow big spark. windshield wipers dont work. blew the motor. but i got it fixed under warranty =)

as i was doing it i was thinking "i should probably unplug my battery.. nah im sure ill be ok"

knu has a good wire pack for like 60-70 bucks. i think it was 18' of 1/0 another 5' of 1/0, terminals, fuse holder and fuse.
