OK, in regards to the "big 3", what gauge do you think my negative battery cable is equivalent too?

As you can (sort of) see in the pic it's relatively short and bolted directly to the engine block.

Also, I'm working with a car that is 20+ years older than I am (1955 Pontiac Starchief... build thread coming soon!) and I want to keep most, if not ALL, of the stereo wiring totally separate from the cars original wiring. My plan now is to get a 2nd battery to power the system, but I want it to be charged by the alternator but NOT draw back through the alternator/main battery under a load. What can I get/do to make this happen?

Thanks,

~Bryant

If you pla on running a second battery, I see no reason to doing anythign to the first that runs the car tiself. I would run a second alt for the car audio, with fully seperate charging system for teh audio. Sounds like that's what you wanted to do, anyway.

I'm gonna guess that's the equalivalent of 6-4ga. Not bad, but not 1/0 either.

Good luck with the car
