Need wiring help, LED's getting HOT!

Well, i decided to test these LED strips out before putting them in my sub box, and im glad i did.

They are LEDs with an input and output (pos in, neg in, and pos out, neg out)

So, i wired the input side up to a battery and let it run for about a minute.

Well, lets just say after about 30 seconds, one of the LED's burnt out, so i reached down to grab the strip, and it was hot, like **** hot. Enough to burn somebody hot.

I take a look at the wire soldered to it, and it was starting to brown, like that was getting too hot too.

any ideas?

Hmm... I see there is a negative in, are these meant to be run in series with the speakers? Maybe connecting them directly to the battery without any resistance is bad.

i only wired the input side of the LED strip. would wiring the output side back to the battery do anything? i wouldnt think so, since they lit up and everything with only the input side hooked up...

I believe those led strips are for 12v ONLY?

did some asking, Leds are low voltage for 3.3 to 5 volts depending so you'll need to put a resistor on there like any other LED, as for the resistor i'm not sure which one.

First of all, those look like 1w LED's, those can and will get hot as hell. Thats normal but if its burning the wire thats not.

Your ballast is producing a different forward voltage.

And if too much voltage is put across the LED it will pop.

2-3v ONLY.

3.3 - 5 is for reverse voltage and that is enough power to pop most LED's.
