Need tweeter advice

I am currently using a Diamond Audio Hex comp set. I enjoy them very much except the aluminum tweeters are a bit to bright. Don't get me wrong they are very clear and loud but they can really be a little bit too much. My question is can I buy just a new tweeter and still use the same crossover? This is the tweeter I have been looking at.

I have heard nothing good about CDT and this seems to be a pretty good deal. Thanks in advance for any help.

Adding a tweeter to an already existing passive crossover usually doesn't work. If the crossover point is too low it can damage the tweeter. At the least it may not sound right. It would be difficult to mix-and-match tweeters through a passive.

Only recourse would be to ditch the passives altogether and go active. If your headunit can manage that, it may work.

You need to figure out what frequency your current tweeter is crossed over, and look at the recommended crossover spec from the tweeter you're thinking of buying to make sure its a close match.

Now on top of that you need to consider that many crossovers sold in comp sets use an optimized filter network to equalize the impedence or reduce a peak in frequency, which may not match the tweeter you buy.

Its a cr@p shoot.

Thanks guys. I was kind of thinking something like that might be the case. I would like to go active but my HU won't allow me to do that. Well looks like I might be buying a whole new component set. The only problem is where I live noone carries anything other than what CC and BB carry. I quess I will just have to read a ton and make a purchase.

First off, there should be a tweeter attenuation adjustment on the crossover. I would probably adjust that if possible to see if it suits you better before making the leap to purchasing new speakers.

Also, if you are going to get some new speakers I would STRONGLY recommend looking into Morel. I made the transition from Hex S600S's to my Morel setup and it is a very large improvement (granted the Morel's are much more expensive). Another thing you could do is switch to a Hex silk tweeter... I'm trying to remember if the crossover is different but I don't believe it is. It sticks in my mind that they are crossed over at around 1,800hz.
