lets have some ideas please...

I just scored a pair of old school 1995/98 jbl gtX8 local in mint cond.

I have tried running 8"s before - I had re x 8" in a sealed box and hated it.

im wanting to build something fun like a horn or a t line

tuning somewhere round 35 I guess is fine

I was thinking if I did them a slot ported box id like maby 1 cubic foot net for them to share - and maby the box would be something like 12" wide by ? long by not more than 14" deep subs foward - port foward

or whatever. I have off work tomorrow and it would be fun to build them a box for the hell of it. so if you got some spare 8" box plans hiding in your computer plz share

specs on the subs are :

sell that interior and have someone make you a box...

You arent going to get a horn or t-line enclosure design made for you for free, thats for certain.

A ported box will be simple enough. You havnt given us any info as to where you plan on putting the subs this time, any sub/port preference, power, etc.

what do I expect to pay for a box design with paypal as a gift ?

anyhow - I might not use them in my lowrider car - I have much bigger plans for it - that pix was just to show how off course I can get when I set out to build a box with no real design to it. lulz. that car is so small inside its redic.

anyhow - the subs may be for my home tv setup. I believe I would like either subs both fowards - and port fowards or up.

size is not an issue id like the box to look some what rectangular I guess. maby 24 or 30 " by 12 by 12 or anything remotely similar to those dimensions. I can figure out internal air space for the subs - and my goal is .5 net for each sub so just 1 cube for the pair - the problem I have is figuring out how to calculate how much port area is needed / and how long to make the port to = tuning

i have had a re x 8 in my rear deck of the valiant - ib. it reached max exc. and made ugly mechanical noise off low power.

then I put the pair of re x 8 in the sealed box in there - and gave them 5% more than rated rms

and they still would not satisfy.

im not saying I dont like 8" subs - they are cool and neat o. but my vette used to have a re sx 18" in the hatch that was basicly inches away from my head when driving - and that was what would satisfy me.

I know there is no way a pair of 8's are even going to compair - I get it

but I guess id like to try a diffrent style of box than ive ever done before = t line

just to see what its all about. I might like its sound better than a regular ported box

or if I could have a horn designed for the pair of 8"s that might help also

help = being louder than a sealed box again. that sealed box in my plymouth was terrible.

I understand that special custom box designs are not suposed to be free - im only asking how much they cost usualy ?between 5 and 10 $ or are we talking 20+ $ here ?
Ohhh gotcha! Uhm I believe RAM is 10$??? not certain. Buck would probably do a T-line for free but I think he is still in experimental stages designing them?

You definitely don't want to do a 35hz tuning if you plan on using them at home for movies and such. But if you want to use them in your car, something like 1.25ft^3 at 32-33hz will work well on most any kind of music. For home use I'd do something like 2ft^3 at 25hz, although with their high-ish fs they're not very home audio friendly.

yeah I was thinking that. im shure if they were in a sealed box - they would be capable of playing well up in to the 300+ hz range

so I guess they might also help fill in lower mid terratory also for home audio use

I watch alot of the music channels on my tv. comcast has a bunch of weird channels in the 800's that are all kinds of diffrent music styles playing 24/7 - is why I thought a box tuned around 35hz for the pair of 8s might be ok in a viechle - or sitting beside my couch hooked up to my tv.

altho - I gota watch out - I stay at an apartment and my neighbors are cops //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
