Need Suggestions on New 15

It probably blew because he doesn't know how to set the gain.
You are probably right sir.... I know 1000 isn't a whole lot but with completely stock electrical he could be clipping the shlt out of it and not even know it till POOF.... The magic smoke.

You can tell by my join date that I've been into the audio game for a little while now... I know how to set my gains properly, it was just an honest mistake on my part for not listening to the sub close enough and not knowing it had had enough. I know what clipping sounds like and I certainly wasn't to that point.

Sorry. Like I said, Lanzar (with the exception of the Opti's) are shlt. Wasn't implying you were a newb.

I don't care when you joined. How many people do you think are "in the game" for 20+ years without ever knowing that the term clipping is even used in audio? You were very obviously clipping the signal. That's why your subs fried so quickly. You even said yourself that you didn't realize your level knob wasn't attenuating your gain, but was bass boost. What do you think bass boost does?

Clipping and distortion aren't one and the same. You can hear distortion, but you might not hear clipping.

I could understand if I was distorting the signal with the bass boost knob. But I really don't think I was pushing the amp into clipping. I mean I haven't checked it with an oscilloscope, but my gains aren't even past 25%.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. I didn't give squat for those subs so I didn't really care much about them. This Obsidian is going to cost some money. I'm really gonna watch it closely.
