Need sub advice

Hi guys, new to the forum.

I'm trying to downgrade a bit to recover some space in a new vehicle.

300w X 1 at 4ohm (RMS)

600w X 1 at 2ohm (RMS)

What I'm looking for is a really good single 10 in a box...12 at the most but would rather keep it small.

Anything you guys can suggest to match up well to this amp? Being a single sub only setup.

Single or dual voice coil?

2 or 4 ohm?

I just want to get the best match possible without sacrificing too much in sound.

Wow I was expecting to have to pay at least twice that.

Its a good match for the P6001 though? Being that I'm only going with a single sub setup?

Ok I'm game to give this RE a try. Been reading a bit and it seems to have pretty good reviews and you definately cant beat the price.

How is this for a box for it?

That box will be fine, but obviously you are not gonna get the sound out of it that you should as if you built your own box...but here are some suggestions

You might wanna also try this box...it's the same box, but in 3/4" MDF..thats a pretty beefy sub youd be better off the 3/4"

The optimal size for sealed is 1cubic ft

Thanks I think I'll order that sealed box and the RE sub when they open next. Hopefully Friday if they are open any more this week with the holidays, I'll give em a call on Friday morning.

focal 33v1. 13 inch sub that does well in very small ported boxes. i put one in 1.25 cubes ported. less than alot of 10's.

Ummm......no.

First off, that first box you listed is WAY WAY WAY to small for an SE12 ported.

Secondly, that second box you listed was for a 10".

For a ported SE12, RE reccomends a 2.0ft3, for sealed it's 1ft3, AFTER displacement.... which is .15ft3 for SE12.

I would NOT reccomend getting a prefab ported enclosure. A prefab sealed enclosure is OK, try this one for sealed.

And obviously the ported box isnt exactly the right size....you're not gonna get a good ported box with a prefab it has to be made yourself...you are not just gonna happen to find one with the right size ports or vents or one thats tuned to the frequency you need...a sealed box is a sealed box if it is made of 3/4" MDF and it is pretty close to the optimal enclosure size then it should be fine....or compact if you have less truck space

And you are correct GregU on the ported/vented box that i had listed it was my mistake it is only 1.08cu ft and it recommends on the RE Site 1.5 cu ft for compact and 2 cu ft for optimal enclosure size......it was late the night when i posted and i mistakenly thought it said 1.80 cu ft instead of 1.08 cu ft

Go with the sealed box that i listed in this post i accidentally posted the 10" version in my earlier post instead of the 12" box

subs do have a recommended tuning frequency, but that doesn't mean that building a box with a little different port tuning will sound bad. most subs will perform just fine in a box tuned between 30-40 hz. there are even reasons to go lower or higher than that, depending on what you are trying to accomplish. finding a box, unless you have it custom built, will be difficult. prefabs are almost always too small, and the port is almost always tuned too high for music. don't go cheap on the box, or any sub will sound like every other sub in a crap box. better off to get a cheaper sub, and a better box.

Yup.

If your trying to recover space, you may really want to consider a sealed enclosure. Generally, it will be atleast half the required space of a ported enclosure.

A lot of peolpe on here will tell you to port it to get more SPL out of it while still retaining some SQ, personally I like the SQ of sealed boxes, even if it sacrafices some SPL, I'm all about SQ. I've already been there and done the whole SPL thing.

Gonna order that RE and a sealed box this evening and see how she goes.

....ok one more question, something about amps that I've never been able to figure out.

My P6001 says:

300X1 at 4 ohms

600X1 at 2 ohms

And it has 2 speaker outputs.

A + -

B + -

...so when I do get my one, RE 12 in its box and ready to hook up since its a DVC speaker (my first) how do I connect it properly?
