Need some speakers

Before you buy anything, I would really suggest you thoroughly read through http://www.bcae1.com, this and other forums, and possibly go to your library and check out some books on car audio.

That component set / amp combination should keep you happy enough for your first system as long as you do a decent install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What did the reviews say that was negative?

Did they claim to have the speakers crossed

over?

These speakers need power, maybe they were running

off of deck power? Or too small an amp.

RSD's are not the best speakers you can buy by any

stretch, but properly crossed over and with a lot of

power they are strong contenders to anything under

$150 (online price) or even $200 (retail).

A lot can be said for setting the amps gain control properly,

using the proper crosover frequency (80-100Hz HP) and

not feeding the amp distorted signals from the head unit.

Distorted signals include things like cranking the headunit to 10/10,

poorly ripped mp3's or CD's, and radio stations that are weak staticky

or cutting in and out. You can play such sources, but not at high volume.

That tends to fry your tweeters. It's called cumulative error, or amplifying

a distorted signal.

What youve asked for is a budget settup. You can move to

the $400-$450 (amp & speakers) range for more piece of mind;

but you may not get a lot better sound out of it.

Anyway, good luck.

If you posted this a few days earlier, I would've recommended that Type X bigbangtheory was selling in the classified.
What sub are you running and how much power are you giving them?

You could run your speakers and sub off of 1 amp. Get a 4 channel amp and use the first 2 channels for the components, and bridge the last 2 for the sub. The amp will depend on what sub and speakers you plan to run.
Thanks for looking out for me. I did get rid of them for an insanely cheap price though. I guess it is better than them sitting, collecting dust.

Well most online places seem to be shoot or miss. I like to use onlinestereo.com, but others have had problems while ordering from them. I have not and gotten a few things off there.

Also most people are good in the classifieds here. Might be able to pick up a nice used set, or find something brand new for a killer price. Just have to check it out I guess.
