need some questions answered with my first setup please

so i just got my first setup and i went with 2 kicker cvr 12's wired at 1ohm..

me not doing any research online and trusting the **** local shops i ended up getting a hifonics 1000w amp...after researching online i ended up realizing that i was ripped off because i paid a good amount more than i can get it anywhere else...i also found out it only has about 500watts from reading many articles saying that a good amount of cheapo amps are usually have of what they advertise.

anyways,so the subs are 2 kicker cvr 12's (silver model) wired 1ohm and are in a sealed box which i will upgrade to a ported once my friend gets his new setup and lets me keep his old box...idk if its the amp or the subs but when i go upto like 25 volume and pop the trunk they sound really distorted and like they are just producing a rattle instead of bass...but inside it sounds fine.they are broken into already from the person i got them from and they were used for 2 months and im 100% sure because i got them from my brother.so im guessing its the amp that isnt producing enough power to them.

another thing is that the amp is about a week old (bought brand new) and when im slappin hard it starts to smell kinda like a hot rubber smell in the car,not too much though but enough to notice,could this be the subs or amp?im leaning to it being the amp though.

what amp would you guys recommend for me?im on a slight budget and probably wont be able to go past $400 being a high school senior and work is on call only,im really paranoid about this amp burning down my car or something form getting too hot and want a newer higher quality amp.

Sounds like your amp gains are too high and you're clipping the subs till the point that they stink.

Turn the amp gain down...

Look up the DMM method to set your gains.

turn all of the bass boosts off on your headunit and amp.

Which Hifonics amp do you have? While they aren't top of the line, some of them are decent and can do at least close to rated.

Look into sundown, skar, Memphis, Rockford .....just some off the top of my head. I'm not too familiar with many one ohm amps.

Put up a wtb thread to save u some cash on used if u like

I want to go with a Rockford amp,which one would you suggest and what ohm should I re wire the subs to?

They should stay wired at one ohm and since u say you want a Rockford amp, I'd get the T1000-1, maybe the P1000-1 if u wanna save some cash.
