Hello everyone,

I am new to the board. I am working on a new setup in my Camaro, and wanted to share what I am doing and see if it sounds like I am going in the right direction. (Ive been reading on multiple front speakers vs 1 set etc.. and realized there is alot I dont know)

Heres what I got going in my 1989 Iroc-Z Camaro:

Front: Alpine 6.5" Type R components. Building sealed MDF door pods for the woofer - the tweeter will be flush mount in the door approx 6" above the woofer.

Amp for Front speakers: MTX 4202 (not sure if these are the correct model#s or not..)

Rear Side Speakers: JBL 6x9 GT9XX series two way speakers. (I disconnected the tweeter on these 1 because they are harsh, 2 so they dont take away from the front stage)

And for Rear speakers: MTX 4202

Rear sub 1: MTX 6000 10" Sub. Will be sealed in .75 cu/ft box. Will run from 80hz - 120HZ

Amp for Rear sub 1: MTX 4202 bridged.

Rear Sub 2: Rockford fosgate 12" Punch Power (one of the old one with that ridiculously huge chrome magnet) in 2.00 cu/ft sealed box. This sub will run from 80hz down.

Amp for Rear sub 2: MTX 8302

Ive got two 4 gauge power cables going back with 2 .5 farad caps. Also running a 4 gauge ground direct from the battery all the way back.

I was debating wether I should put another set of 6.5 alpine woofers in the door with the set I have ( I would not run the second set of tweeters) After reading the board, it sounds like thats not a good idea. What do you guys thinkg? Any other system suggestions.

(btw, Ive also used dynamat on every square inch of the interior of the car, including the doors. Double layers in the footwells and over the rear end area of my car. I also used .75" and 3" acoustical foam sheets I get from work through the car anywhere I could fit them.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Jer:)

First of all welcome to the forum. Well, It sounds like you have done some homework but maybe we need to take another look. Your front stage seems to be fine. You rear is another matter. I am asuming that you have a 4 channel amp. I would have not diconnected the tweets from them, rather, use the high or low pass filer. Play with that and see what sounds best for you. Also on the rears you can adust your gains acordingly, so your rears actually enhances, not take away from your front. I use rear fill so I am familier with it. You can also use the high and low pass filters on your head unit if you have that feature. Subs: Most people on here would tend to say that you should use the same tpe of subs so you don't run into cancelation issues. Look at sub amp #2. Does it have enough power to run 2 subs? I would try to match your subs if you can. Good ideal you have going on the dynamat. Will certainly help your sound out! Their is nothing wrong with bridging a sub from your 4 channel amp, but I and alot of other here use 1 amp for the speakers and 1 for the sub(s) Just some thoughts to ponder. Try to be patient and see what others recommend. There is a lot of knowlege around here if you are willing to use it, Best of luck to you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd rip it all out and start over from scratch. This is one of those systems I just look at and don't want to **** with.

thats why i was asking if u had all the shit or not yet... cause if not, we can point you in the right direction... if not we can see waht we got here

Thanks, I will try playing with the rears and see how it sounds.

None of my amps are 4 channel. They are all two channel amps.

There are 4 amps total. 1 for the front, 1 for the rears, and each sub gets its own two channel bridged to one. I was hoping that because I am runnin a different freq. range to each sub, that I would have very little cancellation. Then 10 and the 12 I have use seperatly in the same car with the same setup.. the 10 is exremely tight for a 10 and punches very hard in the high bass range, but very little in the low range. The RF sub is quite opposite, in a sealed box it does have hard punch, but at much lower frequencies. Its louder and lower than alot of cheaper 15s I have heard. That why I was thinking of using both subs.

(Yes, I have previously owned all this.. some was in one car, some in another. Now I am consolodating it all into my street car)

Are you then saying I should ixnay the idea for the second 6.5s in the front doors? ( I would do kicks, but in my car it just takes up too much foot room. )

Oh yeah, my head unit is an Alpine CDA-7995. It has front/rear/sub outputs and each channel has high and low crossover points I can pick. Plus there is time correction for each speaker etc..

Well, after reading up on fiberglass speaker pods I think Im going to make my own fg pods for the doors. I have one MDF one completed, it looks ok but wont look nearly as nice. Ill use the MDF pods to learn the best position of my components, then Ill go to town with some resin....

I am still contemplating the second 6.5 woofer in the door being Im going to do the custom pods. (Im part German, so I think I have the inherent bigger is better syndrome..laf) Does it really mess staging up that bad with two midrange together?
