Need some advice on a new system.

I own a 2006 G6 2.4l base model. Most of the speakers crackle and I decided it was finally time to upgrade my sound system. I'm not quite sure what all I would need though. I want to replace all the speakers and get a sub and an amp. I also want to get a new H/U for iPod use. My budget is between $600-$1000. Is there anything you could suggest? Quality brands? Just stuff of that nature. This will be my first audio install and I want to try and do all the work myself to save money. Is this a viable route? Thanks for the help.

I don't want to loose too much trunk room so I wanted to go with one 12. I found the kicker cvx 12'' sub with the hifonics HFi HFi1000.1D Amp and a closed box on sonicelectronix for $379. Would this be a good combo?

Then for an amp to power the rest of the speakers I was going to go with the Hifonics HFi100.4, Is this good or do you have any other recommendations?

I'm not sure exactly what kind of speakers I was going to go for. I was looking at JL and the Infiniti Kappas but not sure yet. Any recommendations?

I also have no clue what H/U to get. I want and aux port and BT would also be nice to stream music.

Thanks for all the help!

alright I will help you a little bit.. start with a headunit.. get what you want with it.. I will tell you now as cool as touchscreens are.. you won't watch movies or any of the other stuff like you think you would.. so avoid it if you can.. bluetooth for what? your phone? I never use mine but you might so if its a must get it..

I would buy a nice headunit.. not something you kind of like.. get what you want.. then use your left over money on the front stage amplifier.. get something nice with atleast 150x2 @4.. so even if that is $250 for h/u $300 for amp unless you get used.. thats 550 spend atleast $150 on some components.. thats $700 so you have $230 or so to get a sub/amp/box and the rest is for wiring... Now then if this is just to be a basic system I do a

$150 - alpine h/u basic features

$200 - find a nice used amp that does atleast 150x2 make sure its a reliable user on here

$150-$300 - components I would get new.. a lot of people on here don't tune amps properly so save the hassle

$150-$200 - a 500-1000watt sub amp

100-200 - sub.. get a base model for sq get a ID CTX or even Infiniti 1252w for cheap.. but subs I would research for what you want..

now then those are just ranges you need to find what you like.. for $600 you won't get a system you will like unless you just need an updated stock system.. If you like to listen to music a lot $600 won't get you where you want.. So if you want a stock replacement system with an added sub we can do that for 400-600 if you do used.. if you want a decent system that won't get stupid loud but sound good 600-1000 can get you some used equipment that sounds good.. It will not get you brand new gear that sounds great

I rambled a lot but what it comes down to is what you want.. I could spend $1000 and get a nice system but it would be lacking somewhere.. either overall or in a certain department.. My recommendation is to work your way back getting the best equipment until your budget runs dry.. obviously buy wiring first so you don't forget it..

Get the h/u with the features you want don't go overboard on features you won't use that crap as much as you think..

get an amp with ample power that isn't a hunk of junk

get some nice components as these cover your largest area of music..

get an amp that can power the sub you want and still have head room.. the less strain the better

sub.. find out your musical preference.. SPL SQ etc etc.. with that budget you won't be getting a whole lot of either I would recommend a low powered sub that still sounds good..

Whatever kind of deck you have, make sure it has a built in low pass filter. This will cut off frequencies below a certain level and send it to your subs (once you add them). This should stop your speakers from cracking and popping (most likely they are bottoming out)

just for riding around town i had 2 power acoustik mofo 15"s and 5500d power acoustik stax and it sounded really good and i competed with it. i really needed more power for the subs tho. but 1 15" mofo and 3000d power acoustik gothic series would sound pretty good since you wanted one speak

15" mofo-$150

power acosutik ovn 3000d-$230

total - 380

Kyle did a good job above.

there are a lot of brands in that price range. JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, are big names that have a lot of options for low budgets. yes, even $1000 is low for an entire system overhaul. but you can certainly be very happy with that investment.

more important than what gear you buy and how much you spend is how it is installed. installation is crucial. speaker baffles, foam seals, wire loom, soldered connections, heat shrink insulation, proper amplifier set-up, and sound deadening all add up to a good sounding system regardless of the investment in gear.
