hey all, here is my problem: my amp will shut off for 2-3 seconds and come back on continuously at high volumes ONLY,

here is what i have: 2 jl W6 12" subs, PPI 300 watt amp, running 4 gauge power into a fuse block that splits the power into an 8 gauge into the amp. 8 guage ground wire, amp turned 3/4 way up. this system has been running like this for 2 years, no problems until i put it in my new vehicle.

i have checked the power on the battery and amp, the ground, rca's, remote, and i still can't figure this out....any ideas will help...thanks....

Voltage drop bro. You done sucked all the power out the car. Do the big three, get a beefier battery... and then a High Output alternator. All in that order.
I dont see how that could be with only a 300 watt amplifier, unless his stock altenator is like 50 amps, which I doubt.

Does the amp turn off, or go into protect mode?

the truck is a 99 f-150 4x4 sport, so i wouldnt think the alternator would be the problem, the lights don't even dim to where you can hardly notice it. the voltage never drops and the battery and alternator tested both good at the parts store.

i do have a 1.0 farad capacitor that is NOT hooked up, think that would help???

also- this seems to happen but it may not- i drive it today after it sat all night. i left the headlights off and it worked fine for 5 minutes continuously, i got gas, then drove it with headlights on, it started to cut out at high volume again, but when i turned the lights off it continued to cut off, but i let it sit again for an hour, started it with no lights and drove it and not cut out until this evening when the lights were cut on..... but this is a 300 watt amp??? i don't get it....

the amp goes OFF, not protect mode

also- what is the BIG 3 in the correct order???

SNB778- i do NOT need a bigger amp, this amp has been pushing 3 Jl 12's for 2 1/2 years and now it is only pushing 2, i know it is not about the amps watts.

1.) can someone explain what the BIG 3 is? i have never heard of it before now. and also what order they go in?

2.) will hooking up my Capacitor fix the problem with my amp cutting out since it seems to start cutting out when i turn my lights on?

3.)any other suggestions on why the amp is cutting out, i checked all the wires and it is not going in to protect mode, it is shutting off for 2 seconds, cutting on, then right back off until i turn the volume down a couple of notches...

have you inspected your speaker wires for shorts?

I had that problem once, the wires were close but not touching, until I turned up the volume and the vibration caused them to touch...but then the amp would be going into protect mode.

so maybe its a problem with the remote wire? try temporarily jumping out the remote connection to the constant +12V at the amp and see if the problem persists

try using a DMM to check your voltages.

the amp cutting off has to be a protection mode problem.

Like previously stated, check your speaker wires, the vibrations have given me problems b4.

How and where is your amp grounded to??? I have had some times where the ground isn't sufficient even if the paint is scraped or ground entirely off. The solution was as simple as using a self-tapping screw... I understand you have found voltage coming on all the wires, however, it doesn;t sound like an overly complicated problem. The light thing sounds kinda ****ed.

it is grounded to the seat bolt which is bolted to the body, and i sanded it down to bare metal. i don't think it is the ground due to it never messing up until the high volume, the speaker wires are not touching at all except where they are supposed to. the remote i will further check as it is spliced in the middle . i don't know, i am running out of ideas on this and it is one of those things that just bugs the crap out of me.... all other ideas are strongly welcomed...thanks

How about temperature? could the amp be overheating? although again, the amp would be going into protect and not turning off completely.

also, you said that you are only running 2 subs now instead of 3. when did you switch to only 2? and how did the ohm load change?
