Opinion needed: Do I need a custom alternator?

Hey, I have a question for those of you with a little more knowledge than me. I recently blew an alternator when I hooked up my audio system. A little background: I have a 98' Honda Accord and my system is not too big- 1200w amp with two 12's. However, I know now that I need something other than my stock alternator to power it. I already replaced the stock alternator but should I go ahead and get a custom made alternator. I got a quote for a 200 amp. alternator but I want to make sure there is not a cheaper option. Thanks for helping me out if ya can!

Well there are a lot of so called "bandaids" you can do but why waste the money on thsoe when ultimately you are going to have to upgrade your alternator. Bite the bullet and buy the alt. Its your best choice.

how many amps is your stock alt?

My 95 monte carlo has a 105 amp stock alternator. I had to replace it about 3 months after getting my system. I just got another stocker from autozone and its been working like a champ for about 3 years now.

So you might be able to get away with another stock alt.

oh and I'm running a 600W kenwood and 1000W hifonics amp
