I have a 96 explorer and was looking to get somthin 15" that pretty much draws 1000wrms

i still have the battery that came with the car probably a few years old a les schwab XHD.(i have no idea if this thing is even decent) and my alt was replaced a few months ago. I am pretty sure its not a HO but some napa pro series(guessing still 130)

anyway with ^^^ battery/alternator and running 1000wrms would i need to probably upgrade either battery or alt?

i have searched and i cant really find anything

no with 1000rms youll be fine on stock even. but if ur thinking of any upgrades in the future id upgrade the electrical. i have a 99 explorer and im selling a 250amp alt and a deka battery if ur interested

nahh i dont plan on upgrading to much in the future, i am going to get 1 15" and kinda call it good..

would the stock wires be big enough ya think too?, as for dimming or whatnot

you're gonna need to do big three, and maybe upgrade ur battery, stock won't handle more than a 70 amp draw. So you'll definitely need big 3, and then after that if you're still dimming look into a bigger battery

aight, il probably look into a new battery, this one isnt stock but is a few years old..

but id pretty much only need a new battery if i was pushin it hard everyday?

or would i still need a new battery if i had it running at half power/volume. etc?

well you are going to want to do the Big 3 to facilitate that much current flow. It's hard to say if you will need a new battery on top of that because it is going to depend on a couple things.

1. current Draw on your amp

2. power lost to heat

3. your current battery

I know for a fact that the stock electrical with the 95 amp alternator will not support that. I do not know about the 130 amp alt you have, but I'm guessing that you will need big three to see a steady 14.4 volts.

Don't sell yourself short and get the electrical so you can only listen to it with the volume down. If that's what you want then get a smaller amplifier.

get like a kinetik hc1800 or hc2000 and and do the big 3 and call it good. that would be an overkill

well then maybe i should just get somthing that does 800-900rms...

because really whats the point to spend extra for alternator and battery if its only for a few 100 rms..

but even if i did get a sub that does 1000wrms and a amp that puts out 1000wrms and ran it with my current batt/alt what would happen if it didnt have power?

kill the alternator and battery? or somthin

more like voltage drop and dead amplifier.

You won't need an alt i can tell you that right now.

The big 3 is a rather simple thing to do and the wiring for it can be inexpensive if you find a deal or up to 7.00 a foot (assuming 1/0 gauge) if you go for top of the line.

I thought it would be tough but it is basically the same as installing the power wire for your amplifier, just multiple times and inside the engine bay.

Explorer Engine Bay's are relatively empty compared to like a Focus SVT or an Acura TSX, so you're lucky in that sense.

After you shell out the 50 or so dollars for the wire and have the big 3 set up, if you're still having problems with voltage, go for a bigger battery Kinetic HC1800- HC2400 will definitely do the trick. You don't have to worry about springing for an alternator.

But if you're still worried about all of this, drop to the 500-700 watts RMS range and you could probably run that without any upgrades to stock electrical...

There are some decent 15's out there that will run on that kind of wattage, for instance.

JL 15 inch W3 (500 rms) ($350ish online)

Kicker 15 inch L5 (750 rms) (250ish online)

RE SE 15 (600 rms) (360ish online)

RF T1 15 (600 rms) (300ish online) or see if assman is still selling his for 150 or so each

Alpine Type R 15 (750 rms) ($260ish online)

FI SSD 15 (800 rms) (200+ at http://www.ficaraudio.com)

SoundSplinter RL-p15 (can take 500-700 watts +) (300+ at http://www.soundsplinter.com)

There are plenty of others that will take that, but these are probably the easiest to find I'm sure I'll get flamed by people because I left something off the list or put something on the list. If it were me I'd either get the FI or Soundsplinter. Although they will both take more than the 500-700 watts, they will still sound good with that. And leave you headroom to move up ampwise

well origionally i was planning on buying 1 15" L7 and running the kick zx1000.1 to it

and ive been reading a lot saying kicker amps put out more than rated

so instead of getting the 1000.1 i could get the 750.1 with the l7 and it would be giving it 750-900wrms or somthin and keep the sub in decent shape

any thoughts by anyone else if 1000wrms is toooo much for what ive got
