blaugh!!!!
I have posted some pics here of my current setup....you can see where the stock speakers are located...I also have another pair of 6.5's in the door. (tweets up high) So there are 2 sets of 6.5" Type R Components. The amp is running at 2 ohms at 110wattsx4. It is bridged. MY PROBLEM IS>.......................... (below the pics)

The problem is that this setup cant keep up with my subs...ive got 2 12" Type R's in a TCAB powered off of 2000 watts. NOW I would think that with this front stage they should be able to keep up no problem. In order for them to even keep up at higher volumes. I have to run this 4 channel at about 85-90% gain!!. Its almost there, but not quite.

I heard a pair of boston acoustics Pro60's in a car the other day in STOCK LOCATIONS and it sounded better, and probably louder than both of these comps in my car. Do you guys think I should get the Boston Pro's. Do you think they will solve the problem??

Here are some more pics of the rest of the system.

didnt care to much about looks...but it works.

boston pro's ftw........ would probly work perfect for you. Plus i think you would like only having one set of comps rather than 2 just because its less complicated if you know what i mean.

I would get 2 anyways....id want the extra balls if I ever need it..possible upgrades in the future.

I just want to find someone who has heard both...cause I have only heard the bostons once, but I reallly thought they sounded good. Plus I can get em for like 140 a pair!!! cant beat that. I know a lot of people have heard the Type R's obviously...esp. in this forum. SO I just want to see if people think the Bostons get louder...and I know they sound better.

this setup made for a pretty sick vid... once I figure out how to keep the computer from crashing when I edit it, I'll have it uploaded //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was happy with how it sounded, I duno what it would hit, just leave it at "loud" =D

from what I understand about horns (which isnt much) they act more like tweeters and take care of only hi frequencies....or do they take care of the vocals also?? If so I would consider them...but for the price I can get these bostons...they sound pretty nice...im just trying to get some approval that they will get loud enough.....or at least louder than the Type R;s.

Horns cover approximately 1khz-20khz, and typically have a roll off at 16khz that needs to be compensated for with an eq. They are much more sensitive than conventional speakers and as a result you need a very strong midbass driver. Typically a long throw 6.5" or an 8" is used. Unless you get the Image Dynamics CD1Es, you would also have to go active.

Try disconnecting one set of comps, you may be getting some cancellation in the mids since they are so close to eachother at different angles, its worth a shot, there is no reason on set of type Rs shouldnt be able to keep up.

I have tried only 1 set....I really dont have much midbass...dont care to mch for it..my crossovers are set at like 130 anyways...I just want loud vocals and crisp trebble.....and NO. 1 set is not even close to loud enough.

And how do you say 2 sets is just tacky....you show me 1 show car that has won for interior or custom stereo that only has 1 set. Every newer decent car on the market today has more than 1 set...and they sound louder and better than my 2.

I have decided im going to go with the Boston Acoustics Pro 60's...i can get em cheap, and they drop right into my kicks..I am going to tryyy 1 pair FIRST, and see if it works..if not...then im gonna add 2 again....

If all you care about is looks, do whatever you want. I can show you plenty of systems that have won the IASCA world finals with only a single set of comps. Winning "custom stereo" at a custom car show is all about bling and nothing about sound, except maybe overly loud bass to draw attention. 1 set of front speakers properly powered will get loud enough to cause pain. Trust me I've done it. If you really are serious about getting loud, horns are the answer on the top end. If you don't want to go to that level, get a bigger amp and a better set of speakers. Cancellation is a huge issue at higher frequencies and running a single set of speakers will minimalize it. Cancellation costs you volume and since volume is what you want you need to minimize cancellation.

do you think 150 is enough? or should I get 200 to be safe....reason I ask is because out of all maxxonics products... MBquart..hifonics..autotek...crunch. the highest powered 4 channel is 170x4 hifonics amp.
