Need input on system

OK, I am still unsure what I want to do with my system. I have a 96 Mustang Cobra with factory Mach 460 sound system. I was going to invest in a decent sub/amp combo. I am not sure on a budget, 400 or so. I can either spend that on a good sub and amp, or go with a 5 channel amp, cheaper sub, and replace the factory speakers and power them off the amp. If I go with the speakers, the sub of course will not be very good quality, just something relatively cheap. For the sub I am gonna go with a single 8, dual 8's, or single 10, just depends on what I do with the speakers and amp. I am trying to get good sound quality, dont care about loud bass. I'd go 5 channel, replace all the speakers... then depending on how much power you have on the 5th channel, find a sub that matches that well...

That is the way I am thinking. I think the factory system is pretty good, but I have never heard anything other than stock cars. I just don't know. I think a good sub would do well, but I know I added 2 10's in my last vehicle and never was satisfied, something was missing. Thanks for any more input.

You have to take into consideration wiring kits, a HU (if you want one) or if you dont, a LOC.

I can get the wiring cheap, we carry stinger wire at work (RadioShack) along with fuses and holders, and I can get them at cost. I already have an Alpine CDA9856 head unit. All else is stock.

My 10'' Fi BL is $215 shipped. Port that thing to 33hz and throw 1000+watts to it and sit back and enjoy. Then pick up a 2-channel and a set of components for the front and you're set.

All that on a $400 budget??? Don't think so. It would be nice, yes, but doesn't work for me.
