Need input on L7 Enclosure

A couple months back I sold an L7 12" to a buddy of mine. Long story short, he's not happy with the box he built and now wants me to do it for him. I agreed to help him out in exchange for a 6 pack so all is good.

I'm not too experienced with L7's though, and was looking for some input on an enclosure. I'm thinking about building him a ported box 2.3ft^3 @ 33hz. He listens to lots of rap, and has definatley got more space to spare so let me kow if I need to go bigger on this.

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking I should up the volume a bit, but wasn't sure on the tuning.

Would you say 2.6@34?

See what the isd says, kicker is notorious for reccomending too small of an enclosure, but I had good results with 2.25cf for a l7 10. I think I went with 2.5cf on the 12.

personally i would tune 30ish hz. If he listens to rap he probably isnt too concerned with a flat response and really just wants something to play the lows really well. build the box about a half cube larger than rec and tune it to 28-30hz

It is all in preference, I prefer flat response curve so I don't have to give up the upper end.

L7's arn't the best choice for flat curve either.

Well his last box was 3.6@32hz (4.16ft^3 gross) so that's why I'm aiming a little higher. I say he listens to alot of rap, but I'm sure he listens to other music aswell. I put in a bass mekankik cd and I was just not impressed with the spectrum of bass that was coming through. It's defintely hit's low, but that's about it.

well reducing the size will probably help with that and making adjustments to the tuning, but I wouldnt go over 38.

I may end up doing an even 3 ft^3 @35

Still just playing with the idea. If anyone has any better suggestions please let me know, because I only have enough spare mdf for one box.
