Need input on Dayton HO/HF

Alrighty so I am trying to help a friend build his system - he's looking for a 10" SQ sub that is definitely under $150, closer to 100 the better. He would prefer buying new. I posted about this awhile ago and was recommended the Dayton HO or HF. I read some reviews that the 10" was not loud enough for some people but now I'm reading reviews that they are both musical and plenty loud...

He cannot afford to lose much trunk space; 0.5 cubes at most. He wants sealed. I was thinking the HO in a 0.5 cube sealed box would be appropriate, but I have some reservations about the sub.

1. Anyone have experience with them? Are they underly loud?

2. Is it meant as a home theater sub? I've never put a HT sub in a car before...

If anyone has other thoughts I'd like to hear them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have been looking at the 15" version. Only thing is the single 4 ohm voice coil. Other than that I would give them a try.

Dont know your amp situation but might keep that in mind.

1. Not me, but they're on my to-try list, for both HT and car application. They are regarded as very low distortion, mostly SQ subs. To summarize it, the HO subs are more car audio oriented because they're designed to work well in relatively small boxes. For a near perfect Qtc, the recommended sealed box size for the 12 inch HO is like 0.6cu ft. For the 15inch HO, it's like 1.5 to 2.0cu ft, which is TINY by the standard of 15 inch subs. People have reported that they work well in ported boxes too. The only downside is that HOs need a lot of amplifier power. You do need the rated power to make them sing well. The HF series is the same subwoofer but it needs a much bigger box (at least 2.0 cu ft sealed for the 12 inch driver) so, it more suitable for HT applications.

2. They're used in both applications.

The HO would be my choice for the car environment. They excel in TINY ported enclosures. The 10" is good in .6cubes @ 30hz! The HF will want a larger box than that sealed. The HO will have more UMPH to it. Both will sound as they should and do well.

The HF is primarily Home Theatre, and the suspension is designed around that. The HO is more for both, maybe even leaning automotive.

You can PM me if you have specific questions.
