I would appreciate your guys' help on this. I've been going back and forth on upgrading but now I have another amp... and am figuring might as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Here is what I have now for my sub solution:
Blaupunkt thang!
It's under the driver's seat and bumps pretty nicely; I am actually quite impressed with it volume-wise for being a cute little box. But I would like a little more. If I turn it up too much it will distort a little, so I never do that. I am about 70% SQ and 30% SPL I guess. This thing serves all my SQ needs - it is tight and punchy but I could use more chest-vibrating-ness. I do not want to knock over buildings or compete for SPL, just want to be able to comfortably turn it up to more than I'm comfortable with.
I can afford to lose NO trunk space. I was playing around with the idea of a new shallow-mount sub under my seat, but the more I think about it the more I think I'll end up being disappointed. So what I've come up with is this: a small box bolted to the rear deck containing a beefy 8" sub (SA-8?). I want to refrain from irreversably modifying the actual car as much as possible, therefore mounting flush in the deck is not an option. The sub will point towards the front seats and be mounted behind the driver's-side rear headrest (to minimize loss of visibility. It already sticks up like 6" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif).
My questions are as follows:
- Anything majorly wrong with this idea? I will bolt the ***** out of the thing so I do not get brain damage in case of an accident.
- What sub? I don't want anything close to sloppy but I do want lots of meat - I've been told the SA-10 is not a SQ sub, but how does the SA-8 do? I was thinking SA-8 and building a very small (0.2-0.3) sealed enclosure, as I've read they like those.
- In a few days I will have an old school US Amps 50HC- which will do 375 watts at 1/2 ohm, stable and happy. It would be great if I could use this amp, but if I need something beefier to accomplish what I want I am willing to find another (I know the least I could do is 1 ohm were I to go the SA-8 route.) I suspect I will need to find another amp the more I think about it; wanting a good amount of volume from an 8"...
Below are some pictures of my rear deck for reference. Gah sorry if they're hyoooge. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
