Need help

Hi,

i am new here great forum. Im in need of a lil help if some one can help i have been installing systems for years but i have ran into one i can not figure out have read and searched. My nephew has a 99 cadilac catera and he bought a wiring harness for it and the problem i am having is the factory amp will not kick on only when the bose radio is hooked back up, i have search web sites for day's and have no luck on how to get the factory amp to kick on and i don't want to re wire the entire car unless i have too if any one can help i would greatly appreciate it thank you for reading and God bless..

I'm not familiar with this vehicle but here are some ideas to ponder if you haven't already done so.

1) plug in factory Bose and ensure that there is a remote turn on wire coming out, if yes then use DMM to check for data or 12v. If it's 12v, label wire, plug in aftermarket harness to ensure they match.

2) ensure aftermarket radio is putting out 12v of remote turn on.

3) do you have the correct harness for the vehicle, could it be defective.

The wiring harness is fo a cadilac catera, Yes the aftermarket deck has a remote wire i got it going to a amp in the trunk for a sub and it play's. The only way i get sound is to hook back up the bose oem tape deck also the key switch wire has no juice on it and only does when the oem deck up plugg back in strange i know it very fustrating maybe if i can find which wire the goes the the oem amp i can splice into it and kick it on with the sony cd player remote wire but i really appreciate it for the advice.

i didn't see the catera in the list, but other Caddy's from that year needed a GMOS interface. since you can't find switched ignition, that leads me to think that you have a Class II Data Bus. Note that the harness will run you around $100.

dude, the GMOS is expensive and required for every GM since 2002 and several after 1998. your cheapest option is probably ebay to find one used (if you want the risk). they also are known for random failures, so buying from a place with good customer service is usually a good idea. Crutchfield sells them and should be able to make sure you get the exact one for your car. note that there are dozens of different models.

Like K.H.A said, buy the right interface and they are not cheap. Or spend the time rewireing the car to bypass the amp and be prepared to omit speakers to ensure correct resistance.

If you want to be lazy and cheap, trade it in for a Geo!! J/k
