Need Help!

I'm not too good with audio so I need some help.

I just bought a new Alpine Head Unit, 4 new alpine speakers, a 1800 Watt Rockford Fosgate Amp, and two 12" Rockford Punch HE subs. It sounds fine at low volume, but when I turn it up so the subs can really start to hit, all the other sound but the bass gets distorted, and it sounds terrible. What should I do?

(By the way, the amp is ONLY connected to the sub and the speakers are going through the HU, if that makes a difference)

Ummmm....turn the volume down....turn the bass down?

turn the bass down in the head unit tothe speakers and turn the bass up on the amp to the subs

How do I turn the bass down only on the speakers? When i turn the bass down on the HU, it turns it down on the subs also. The HU also has a subwoofer control but I played around with all that and it doesn't seem to help.

Could it be becase the speakers aren't being powered by an amp?

What model alpine hu is it, like they said you need to turn up your subs output, but not overall bass.

I finally read your post and paid attention to it, whats distorting? the bass on your speakers or the trebel?

Just the general SQ, you can't make out anything
