I have been researching this simple little build for a while now on different forums and have one more choice to make before I'm set but the choices seem very limited.

My basic (and passive) install so you see what I'm working with:

2008 civic si coupe

kenwood dnx-8120 head unit plus install equipment

rainbow 265.25 NG fronts

second skin dampened doors, rear deck and trunk lid

no rear fill for time being(future probably holds rainbow 165 though)

alpine pdx.4 150 amplifier

knukonceptz 4 channel 4guage amp kit

knukonceptz 16 guage karma ss wire (twisted construction)=havent ordered yet deciding if I need 100ft or not.

and finally I need to decide on an 8 inch IB sub to put into the stock rear panel location.

I need recommendations as my first choice is hard to order (DLS OA8 IB subwoofer also considering critical mass) and being new to this field am not very confident in running a sub not designed for IB applications as my original choice was the jl 8w7 and this guy as something cheap to try Image Dynamics ID8V.3-D2 - Image Dynamics Subwoofers.

I pretty much have a headache trying to figure out the right way to go here because of the placement and its requirements.

With IB configurations, Qts = Qtc, so look for a driver with a higher Qts - around 0.6 - 0.8. You will also need a driver that has a high excursion.

Also, do not expect any serious output from a driver this size in a setup like that.

Good luck!

I have 2 ID8's IB in my rear deck with about 220RMS to them. They work well. ID says all of their subs can work well IB.
Nearly *all* subs can work "well" in IB configurations. However, if you want to achieve quality beyond "well", aim for a driver based on the guidelines I suggested //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've been searching for a qts of at least .42 or higher and keeping track of the low F's on someones suggestion.

One exception I someone told me about however was the elemental designs subs which typically are just under .40 qts.

Right now I'm more leaning towards their 9kv.2 which they advertise along with a few others as very capable for IB applications, and another person I've spoken too said even though their qts is pretty low they actually did perform well. I will try and call ED up tommorow to discuss it though before I buy something.

I do realize there won't be much output as I'll have to aim for about half of what rms is usually which is why I'm also now considering a 10" IB sub which should also broaden my selection.

There's a lot of different information out there about the subject of IB, and not much of it is very concrete.

Drivers w/ a very low Fs tend to have a lower Qts, so there's generally 2 different approaches:

1) low Fs, low Qts

2) high Qts

And yeah, 1 8" in IB won't give you anything near what the bassheads here are doing, but if you're not a basshead I think it's worth a try. A 10" will be tough to fit.

I'd take an ID8 over a 9kv.2, but that's just based on my perception of the companies themselves.
