Need Help With Box

Ok I have to go into detail on this one as it's a long story.

I have two 12"Kicker CVR's which when first purchased where in a sealed box. They sounded fine, but I felt there was more to be had from the output on them so I decided to go ported. I drive a 95 Mustang and anyone know has worked with one knows that your options for a standard ported box are slim and in most cases, you have to go custom or fiberglass. I didn't want to go either way as install fee's up here in Vancouver BC Canada are crazy. Every shop I went to quoted me $375-500 for a custom wood ported box.

So I talked to a fellow mustang owner online and he said he went and bought two single 12 Ported boxes and then made a faceplate for them to make them look like a single custom box. So What I did as per the suggestion was go get two Bassworx vented boxes and to my surprise, I was able to fit them both in.

Now the problem I'm having is since they are prefab boxes, they aren't tuned right. So although I'm getting some impressive output from them, there are some songs that either just don't hit right, or sound horrible. Is there anything I can do to address this? I've had a few people suggest I put something called Polyfill in the box to trick the box into thinking it's bigger than it is, which I have looked into online and is actually something that is practiced. Do any of you think that would help at all? I'm hoping there is something I can do because otherwise, I'm going to have to go back to a sealed box and piss away the money I paid for for the two bassworx boxes.

And I'm not a noob when it comes to car audio. I knew the risk I was taking with going prefab on a ported box. But you have to understand that my options are really limited.

the polyfill will make the sub act as if it were in a larger box (1 pound / cu' is what is recommended) however, if thoses boxes are tuned to say 50hz and you need it in the 30's, polyfill isn't going to make that much of a difference in tuning...only like 1-2hz.

my suggestion would be to build a box yourself, using the prefabs as a model for the external dimensions and then tune from there. you may end up with less air space than what the subs require, but that something you'll have to live with.
