Need help with a box

I have a 99 honda civic hatchback and i want to run a 15" sub at around 1700 watts or so. I understand that i should use a ported box and i want to build it myself or have someone do it for me. Probably will be a RE SX dual 2. The max dimensions would probably be 29 wide, maybe 20 depth and 15-16 height. i might be able to go higher if i remove the cargo cover. Which way should i build it, subs up, port back? probably going with a slot port

For a hatchback, yeah... you'd want subs up port back. For a 15" SX for daily music purposes, I'd say something around 3-5 cubes around 30-35Hz. Also, 1700 watts is a bit much for a SX, they're rated at 1000W RMS, so unless you plan on tuning high and doing burps for competition use, I definitely would watch your gains and sub excursion the first time you play it.

3-5 cubes. thats pretty broad. and have you have played with RE subs. pretty much the whole line up sans the RE RE can take 75%-100% more of there rated power.

to the OP, due to your power on tap, go for 3.5 to 4 cu ft. tuning from 30-34 for fatest bass. as Dnick said, sub firing up, port point back ala CRX

i was thinking now of going with 2 12's or would the one 15 be louder? Should i do a box like in your sig DNick454?

a pair of SX 12s?? tough call. more cone area with the 12s, but less then optimal power going to each, VS less cone area but 75% recomened power. i think i would do the 15!

i am willing to upgrade the electrical a bit and run 3k watts or so, just fitting 2 amps will be difficult, so i might just keep it at 1 that can put out some good power. For the 2 12s, would that box specs be sufficient?
