What are these and what causes them to blow:

The white things. I just finished up the install and turned the radio on. I noticed some Alt whine so I was going to go back andfix it. Let the deck on and opened the hatch to a funny smell. The amp was on and playing but smoke was coming out of the amp. All positives and negatives were correct and the fuses didnt blow. As soon as I noticed the smoke I ran to the front of the car and turned off the radio and removed the positive run from the back batt. What happened?

a bug probably got in the amp to stay warm...when you turned it on its body acted as a conducter and fried the bug taking your amp along with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I saw no bug when I opened it up though.
