Need help: personal tastes vs. sub

I'm in the research aspect of buying the rest of my system. As stated in sig, I want an l5 10" 4 ohm....BUT....

The issue is as much as I love the Kicker line, there are other subs out there, and I don't want to have my eyes closed to other options, because I could then miss a better sub for my tastes.

The sub I will get will be a 10" of some nature, in 1" MDF sealed enclosure. I would like somewhere in the range from 400-500 RMS give or take 50 RMS. It also will be 4 ohm. My current thought choices are the Kicker L5, RF Punch P310D4, and Alpine Type-R.

My listening pleasure is a mix of all sorts of music, but my highest priority is a clear sound, with great quality. The sub will be a filler for the lower stuff (speakers are tuned for 63hz now) and also will cover those times where I feel like blasting my favorite Techno song or rap diddly. So I guess you guys would call me an SQ person.

I'm running into this: The L5 has a FR of 24-100 Hz, the Punch 20-200Hz, and the R 24-500 Hz. I'm aiming at hitting lowest possible for the 10", which would be the Punch, but at the same time I want something that is more of a punch of bass(hence sealed enclosure), rather than the long drawn out Fart bass that 12's easily can do.

So, which of these 3's has fastest hits, meaning they don't lag due to excursion, etc...Or if you have a better idea, what sub would you suggest with similar aspects.

P.S. - I'm leaning towards the Punch, as it has my ideal FR range and RMS, but I'm worried about lag. Should I worry?

The box most likely will be a home make and yes, sealed. The sub is the issue.

1" stands for the thickness of the MDF used to build the enclosure. I know it's overkill, don't bother telling me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The driver: I'd like to spend no more than 200$ at MOST.

Kicker L5- Honestly I hate the way they sound but they can be very loud. Especially in ported boxes. The spider also tends to separate.

P3- Definately a good woofer but not really worth the money in my opinion. It tested well in CA&E. I had some problems with the P2 magnet coming apart from the basket but that was about a year ago and haven't heard anythin bad about them since.

TypeR- Definatle my choice. I had 2 12's in my truck and I LOVED them. They can be loud and clean. Definately a sq woofer. You can put them in a fairly small box and they will sound great. I would say a .75 plus disp. of woofer.

Type R definately a good one for techno, rap, and sq combined

I wouldn't be too concerned with the frequency range on these woofers. Most music doesn't play that low anyway and you pretty much can't hear it. You are going for a 10 by the way so don't expect alot of earth shaking bass. As for the "fart bass" you were speaking about, I have never heard of that problem. All you have to do is give your subs plenty of power. At least RMS if not a little more.

As I said above, give the sub LOTS OF CLEAN POWER.

TYPE R with 600-800 watts!

Type-R advocate Ehh? haha.

Thanks for the input. I actually have Type-R components in the front, and I like them, though I think my Polks in the rear actually sound cleaner.

I guess my biggest gripe for the R is everyone has one. The punch has always been my second choice under the L7 and 5. I heard a punch once and I was amzed by it, but truthfully I have never heard the other 2 in person. I guess L7/5 is a no-go, as I dont need loud, I need clarity and 'crispness'.
