Need Help/Opinions on H/T Recievers

My Dads birthday is comming up soon an I wanted to get him a reciver. I know very little bout home audio so work with me. Looking for a good quality receiver with HDMI inputs(already have an HD DVD player) Ive searched a lil an have come across a Harmon Kardon AVR-146. Is this a good reciver or can i find better for $200? Any input is appreciated.

$200 isn't that big of a budget for something really high quality.

Make sure what you are looking at will decode all the fancy pants new audio formats if that is what you want to use it for.

For the time being hes going to use it to power 2 bose speakers an maybe later down the road ill convince him to try other speaker setups. But could I find a better reciver for $200ish cause thats how much the avr-146 is.
