Alright I know this has probably been covered, so please dont flame.

I really need some help installing my hu, from what I know its not smart to just hook it up becuase of the extra power it has the hu might fry my wiring.

Anything you can give me would help. The more info the better.

So what do I have to do in order to wire it correctly to avoid melting down my wiring harness? I eventually plan on getting a 4 channel amp, but for now I would like to know how to install it.

I also would like to know if there is any difference in installing it with or without an amp.

This is in a Honda Del sol btw.

Thanks guys.

Oh, also I know the IPOD controller for this HU is REALLY slow, but isnt there a newer universal apapter that isnt really slow?

Well, I have enough confidence to do it myself, I would just like a little help to make everything go easier, and to avoid problems.

Nothing wrong with that is there?

Not to mention this is my project car that wont be driving for awhile yet, and im waiting on a bunch of suspension parts to come in so I thought i'd finish up the audio install.

Alright, well its pretty easy, you do have the harness for your car right ? Its pretty much matching colors, best to solder the connections and then wrap them in shrink tube.

Make sure the power wire for the unit is at least 10 gauge I believe, or maybe 12 would be fine. The internal amp on that unit requires bigger than stock power (directly and preferable fused to the battery).

Alright I snapped a few pics to whow you what im working with.

Sorry, but Im not sure what wires are what and I done know which one is the power wire.

Once again, please dont flame.

Like I said, I dont know what I really have, or what I need.

Alls Im asking for is help.

Thanks.

um

go to store, buy honda del sol wire harness from circuit city. see if they have a matching set of fast connect wire harnesses for your headunit and your car.

they look like this. they have TWO connectors on each piece.

EC.MET.JV1680.JPG

one side is white and is a universal connection. the other side matches the connector that plugs into the factory connector for your hondas old radio.

the other connector has a matching white universal connector that plugs into the first cable above, and then on the end of that, there is a connector that plugs into the new alpine headunit.

they dont sell alpine anymore, so they might not have any of them left over. but its worth a gander. if they dont, then buy the first cable that matches your car, and hook the connector that came with your alpine to it.

there are colors.

match them up.

red->red

yellow->yellow

black->black

green\black + green->green\black + green

ect.

the only ones that are nessicary are the purple\white\grey\green\yellow\red\black

the others are for stuff thats listed in the alpines manual.

thats about it.

red: ignition (key turns on, wire turns on - 12v)

yellow: constant 12v (when car is off, still 12v)

black: ground (to chassis of car, negative battery post)

those are the only three required to turn the unit on.

if you didnt understand that, then go have it installed at circuit city for $55+parts

bought one for my honda-to-alpine harness not too long ago for around $20; it was well worth it:)

sure.
that too. *sigh*

imo. just turn the internal amp off and use an external lawl.

I would, but currently I dont have the money for a decent 4 channel amp, as all of my money is going to get the car up and running.

Unless you guys could point me to some quality budget amps?

Also, which cable is the power cable that I need to use 10 ga. for?

Having same problem as you buddy, ****ed old cars with inadequate wire!

Im thinking about paying for someone to install my hu for me tbh. But im thinking if they dont replace the factory power wire im gonna be short changed of 100 bucks for a hu i could have plugged in myself!

peripheral makes an ipod adapter for that deck. it goes through the changer port. what it does is it plugs into the bottom of your ipod, defeats the volume on it, so you only have one master (alpine), and you control everything else normally form the ipod. i like it better since i dont have to scroll for days for songs on the deck.
