Need help deciding between these comps

Hey guys. I recently purchased a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS head unit and now I'm looking to get some actual speakers in my door as opposed to the stock garbage.

I was originally contemplating going between active or passive but I THINK I decided on passive. Anyway, back to the matter at hand. I've been looking around the forums and searching my butt off and found some in the price range I want to spend that look good. Only problem is I can't decide which ones to get, ha.

The one I've been looking at include: CDT EF-61FG, Image Dynamics CTX65CS, Cadence CWM6, Zapco i-6.2, and the Polk MOMO MMC6500.

Out of those choices, I think I'm leaning towards either the ID CTX65CS's or the MOMO's. From what I hear about the MOMO's they are an excellent speaker for like less than $180. CTX65CS's just sound like a great overall speaker.

So out of those choices which would you choose and more importantly, WHY? I know there's some slight price differences between some of the ones I've listed so I was hoping if the extra cost of one is worth it over the less cost of another. If that makes sense.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hmmm...thought the answers were going to be mixed, ha. But I guess that's a good thing. If you all guys think the ID's are the way to go then that will make my decision that much more easier.

Is there a certain genre or "type" of music the ID's play the best? Like songs that have a lot of mid base, highs, etc?

Deja, what are the TS-D720PRS's? I did a Google search and I literally found nothing. Nothing, as in my search returned absolutely no web sites, haha.

Any more replies would still be appreciated, thanks!

Ah dammit, sorry I mistyped... the correct model number is TS-C720PRS. They are the Pioneer Premier comps. There's a review over at DIYMA, and keep in mind these guys are as hardcore SQ as they come. They can be found here for purchase.

A cheaper alternative that uses some of the same technology are the new TS-D1720C's. They also get great reviews and can be had for $102 shipped.

Thanks for telling me about the TS-C720PRS's, they sound pretty fantastic.

So know I pretty much decided it's between the TS-C720PRS or the ID's. MOMO's are a close alternative.

Just one last question. Forgive the noobiness of this but I'm curious. Now, active versus passive. I know, I know. I read the sticky and know what the difference is between them is but my question is if I get the TS-C720PRS's and want to run them active, do I need anything else special compared to running them passive? Other than a HU that allows an active setup which sounds like mine will?

I'm interested in tweaking my stuff to make it sound the best it can but was wondering if I need anything special, like more wiring or something to make it happen. And if I want to run them active, I need a 4 channel amp correct?

Thanks again for the assistance everyone and the patience! Any more input would still be appreciated!

Seems a waste to have the HU and NOT go active. Do some reading on DIYMA as there's a ton of threads on active sets to fit any budget from $100 to $1k.

And you need nothing but a 4 channel amp to run active with that HU. Most guys run the 720's active and change the tweeters anyway, so why not just get what you want from the start.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, I see myself going active in the future anyway so I might as well get it going now you know?

So if I get one of the comp speakers I get, get a 4 channel amp, and wire them up I'll be good to go if I wanted to go with passive OR active?

In other words, let's say for some reason I run these passive. If I wanted to run them active later on, is there anything else I have to get? Or if and when I wanted to run them active instead of passive, I just access it through the HU and go from there? Meaning there is no other equipment I have to buy to convert from a passive setup to an active one? Hope that makes sense. If not, I'll try to explain it again.

Thanks again everyone!
