need help before i build...

I'm building a box for my 12" L7 according to their "street bass" plans. The box will be tuned at 38hz which I believe is a little too high for a daily driver. I thought about tuning it to about 33-35hz but wasn't sure what the best number would be. I heard to tune it lower, you need to make the port longer, but how much longer? The port according to their plans is 16 1/2in. So how long should I make the port and do I need to make it wider or thinner?

I would go 34 or 35 cause unless your going to be competing your not gonna notice a difference between 1-2hz unless your hearing is phenomenal
