need help amp started to smoke what could it be

ok been redoing my stereo the past few weeks have the two high/mid amps hooked up, the one amp is playin fine just some engine noise. the other amp just had power and ground to it, so i put a remote in it and hooked up a speaker i had layin around, and the amp started to smoke, (it worked last week when i was testin) it blew the fuses on the amp. i took out the ground wire, i replaced the fuses and went to hook up the ground and it sparked and smoke again came out of the amp what could this be ??????? also just took the amp apart and nothing looks burnt or black or anything ??????????????????
