my first baby was born on august 4th, we have had alot of stuff going on and today was my first day back to work.

im wondering what my time frame is before i have to have my baby boy added to my insurance so that the costs right after he was born are covered under my insurance.

my human resources person was not at work today so i was not able to ask them, and my health packet that i have is for our old insurance policy (different insurance) not our current one.

i know there are people here who have had babies, just wondering what you have came across and/or ran into during the birth.

as a backround, the mother and i are not married so she is not on my insurance, only the baby will be on my insurance.

just looking for a little help

Enroll now. The additional premuim can be retroed back to the beginning of the month so all of the costs you incurred are covered. The window is usually 30 days, but that can vary from plan to plan depending on how your employer set everything up.
You don't need HR to get the forms. Just go online to the carrier site and print out a change/add form for your new dependent. Complete it and give it to HR. You will need to do this for all lines of coverage unless you use an online enrollment system.
my price per week is 24$ a month, but for a family it is 32$ a month.

so if i enroll now, they will charge me the 32$ a week back to when he was born correct? i think thats what you were talking about on the additional premium.

and once he is added, all costs dated back to when he was born are covered correct? because i just got a bill of like 1500$ and that was for the 2 day stay in the hospital after he was born.

every insurance company i've had says its 30 days from the life changing event. and i've always had to go through my hr dept to change things. never been able to go directly to my insurance company to change my coverage.

That's exactly what he just ****ing told you.

did you not try to get this taken care of before the baby was born??
jeez, 4 months before I got married I was ready to add my wife to my plan.
congrats, how the hell can you add a baby to your insurance before there born? you cant, thats why most insurances give you the 30 day window for these events
