Need help adding battery

Can somebody explain to me how to add a battery to my system ?

run 1/0 gauge wire from the + on your main battery to the + on the new battery

run 1/0 gauge wire from the - on your main battery to the - on the new battery, some people ground the battery on the chassis instead

and if your + to + connection is longer than like a few feet I would fuse both ends of the wire within a foot or so of both batteries

Does it matter if 1 battery is new and one is old? I have heard that the new battery will just keep killing the old one? Is it ok if one is a dry cell and one is a gel cell?

new and old is fine

dry and gel is fine also.
