Heres my setup

-Kenwood Excelon X895 HU

-Arc Audio XXD 4080 for fronts/rears

---Fronts--- Image Dynamic CTX65CS

---Rears--- Image Dynamic CX62 V.2 (Mid Bass) OR --- CDT CL-6EX.2 (Coxials)

(Got this setup from a friend for $125 a few years ago)

- Orion CS250.2 for subs

- 2 Kicker Comp's 4ohm wired in parallel in a ported subzero box

Curious if I should get an active crossover or if my HU/Amps can do everything just fine. Obivously will be using the passive crossovers with my comps. And most likely going to use the Mid Bass drivers for my rears once I sound deaden my car super well.

Do I need any extra crossover for my Mid Bass drivers?

Is there any large advantage of going with an active crossover, I've looked at a few decent ones, eclipse eq1000 is one.

No, you don't need an external active crossover to do what you want.

The XXD 4080 appears to have a Crossover Range of High/Low 65Hz-250Hz/50Hz-250Hz

That means if you use the high pass crossovers in the Kenwood HU outputs and low pass crossovers in the Arc amp to bandpass the rears for midbass. You wouldn't need to run your midbass above 250Hz anyway.

The HU gives you:

Front & Rear High-Pass Filter: The KDC-X895 features an independent High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear channels when your front & rear speakers are connected by the unit's speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from "Through", 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, or 180, 220Hz. The "Through" selection is a full-range setting.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X895 provides the following subwoofer preamp output controls.

Low-Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the unit's subwoofer preamp output. You can select from 50, 60, 80, 100, 120Hz, or "Through". The "Through" setting allows your external amplifier's crossover network to do all the filtering for your subwoofer.

Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).

Subwoofer Level: You can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level from the CD receiver. You select levels between -15 to +15.

You don't even need crossovers on the sub amp.

look to Audio Control for some flexible crossovers. But you'd need another pair of amp channels - one channel per driver is required for active and the only crossover you really need would be a two-in, four-out 2-way with a x10 switch to divide the component set up. you have enough crossovers in the HU and amp for the other drivers. you could use the 4080 for the front active and add a 2 channel amp for the midbass. then insert a 2-way crossover between the HU front output and the 4080.

or just buy a Sundown amp for the comps and bridge the 4080 to the midbass. Some Sundown amps have crossovers flexible enough for active comp sets.

you want to minimize the number of components in the signal chain.
