need components

thats a good question, no quarantee's on used, and i don't know if you would have over a year waranty on new items.I compare to this, would you rather have a used corvette with no waranty or new cavalier with full waranty, that is up to you

how do i make sure that they will last a long time though? and not just for like a year.
I've had people buy stuff from other people online, and for the first year it would work fine, and then their stuff would just blow/break/or stop working. Is it just better to buy stuff new with a warranty?
Sounds to me like the people you know that bought things from others online don't know how to set their gains and resist the 'bass boost' knob.

I'll second the PG RSD component set, very nice for the price. But it looks like you're willing to spend a lot more, but that opens up a million options that we can't pinpoint to one set of speakers that will be the 'best'.

PG RSD's no matter what you budget is. even if you have money for more why bother. i honestly can't see my car sounding much better than it does at the moment.
thats one of the dumber things ive ever heard...

if you take care of the rainbows as good as i did they will last you forever.

explain?

i didn't say anything about your rainbows not being taken care of. i am just saying that the RSD's are amazing especially for the money. you can get excellent sound quality out of them if you know what you're doing and can use an EQ. thats all i am saying.

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that you don't really need 2 sets of components.

I have over 700 watts going to my subs and just have the set of Alpine SPX-177r type-x components. My rear speakers are stock ran off the HU and faded out 95% of the time. You could save at least some of the money on the second set and buy even a decent set of co-ax's just in case you have somebody in the backseat or just leave what you've got now. I've got a Mazda 626 and sitting in the back seat I have no problem at all hearing the components up front.

Also if speakers last a year and then blow or start sounding bad it was likely because they were abused by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

I dont have a head unit. One wont' fit in my car.

So will new components still sound good? I can control bass, treble, and mids and stuff already with my stock HU, but im sure its not as good as a new HU.

that doesn't happen when people properly use their equipment.

how long do components last? will they last forever if i treat them right? or will after a certain amount of time do all components fade??

also, if i upgrade my components, will they be sticking through my door? or will they be inside the door, hidden behind the "screen" that is already in the door which is where my stock speakers are behind.

I"ve seen people where the speakers stick through the door, but i was wondering if there was a way to hide that... (i know my dad is giong to be mad lol when i get these..)

as long as you can make them fit in the factory locations then go for it. why can't you change your head unit? what kind of car is it?
something about the air conditioner is attached to the HU. I had a friend who graduated last year who had the same car as me and he couldn't get a HU either. It's a lexus

so it is possible to get the speakers "inside" the door so that no one knows i upgraded my components? cuz a lot of other peoples cars i've seen have them sticking through the door, but i've seen some where they were hidden (i think.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif "

oh, that could be. i don't know. a lot of newer cars are a total pain in the arse to work on. it's kind of gay. it sucks that if you want to do up a car stereo you have to keep that in mind when buying a car.

yes it should be possible, only way to know is to take off your door panels and see if you have room. you will mount a 1/2 to 3/4 in mdf baffle to the door, then mount the woofer to that. as long as everything clears you will be good to go.
