Need components to replace diamond d6

d6's have a 2.7 mounting depth... and I need something with about 2in. But also, everything ive checked says that 1999 ford escort sedans need 6.5 inch speakers, but these dont fit at all, I'm assuming its because of the large cage its housed in.

Increasing the depth is out of the question because the door panel is extremely tight with the door. It's a ford escort 1999. I dont want to cut into the door panel for when i sell my car, nor do I want to cut the metal for the same reason.

I'm going to sell my d6's for about 250 (yes, theyre for sale, never been used yet, box is slightly scratched up), and will gladly add in another 100 dollars for better components.

What do you suggest thats better than the d6's, whether it be another diamond brand or not, with a 2 in max mounting depth, that will fit in the front doors of a ford escort 1999.

Can anyone help out?

I was thinking of http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5113.html

Mounting Depth/Diameter: 2.3 in. / 5.4 in. I'd have to remeasure, just in case. I could go to the local shop and ask them to measure it.

My buddy Derek on ECA has an escort and runs Exile 6.5" mids in his doors. They are shallow and sound pretty decent. They are a company started by Ex- Phoenix Gold engineers, products are kinda cheap

If you want a very nice tweeter with a shallow mount mid ( w/ copper in the motor, neodymium motor) Rainbow X-plain line is pretty nice and up your alley. comes with a Cal 25 silk tweeter as well with 4level tweeter attenuation on the xover.

That would actually work perfect I think. The rainbows.

I've heard nothing but good from rainbow. Would you say this line is better than the D6's?

Is there a site i coudl buy them from? I'm looking around 300 online.

I havent heard much on exile at all.. decent for sql?

haha. 584 on car audio security... a littleeee out of my range.

I measured my cars mounting measurements. Depth max is 2 inches, diameter i believe is 5... I measured the stock speaker, and it was 6 inches. So i'm not exactly sure about mydoors anymore.

his friend derek has exiles.. which are 5.5 mounting diameter. So I could be wrong. I guess ill have to measure again, I didn't put the door back on right anyway.

yeah, it was 2.3 i believe. The local shop wouldnt fit it for me. Sonic electronix actualy says 2 1/8th". But im not sure how tight that would be. If that means thats a safe mounting depth, and it could allow a little smaller, then i'd go for it.

Top Mount Depth 2-1/8"

the diameter is 5.4"

If his friend has exiles in his car, with a 5.5 diameter, then it should fit perfectly. But I dont want to order unless I know for sure.

I went to best buy today to pick up some speakers.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7661693&type=product&cmp=++&id=1134701341854

Product Depth 1-3/4"

Cutout Diameter or Length (inches) 5"

Those should fit, if they do, i'm going to return them and get another set that has a 5.5 cutout diameter.

If those dont fit.. I think I'm gonna go with my friends advice and just take a tool.. I forgot what he called it, I beleive a drimmel tool with a rock bit, and just grind down the edges to make a bigger cutout.

haha. im leaning toward those. still wondering if the hex's will fit in my car..
I say go for the xline...the tweeters on that set used to come on the Rainbow Pros! Cal25's make people fall in love with them, and the neo magnet on the mid just makes it great for your doors.
