need CLEAN 4-channel amp for $150

What about the clarity of the infinity compared to the a/d/s?
Never used an a/d/s so I cant compare it to that. Id say they sounded as good as the alpines Ive had in the past. For the price I dont see any way to beat it you can get a refurb which should come with a year warrenty or so for like 100 bucks there

my car runs at 13.1 lol. This is with nothing on, with the birghts, heat, my stereo, and everything else trying to make it drop as low as i can, sucker almost dies on me.

Sorry, I often don't even know what section a post is in... I see it at the top of the page in the recent posts list, click on it and then I'll reply. I guess I should look to see where the post is before answering a request for an amp.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Cept it is at 14.4v.... god i hate cea ratings, why would they allow 14.4 jesus.
Didn't want to reply, but I have to.

Not to be rude, but complaining about the voltage CEA chose just says to me you aren't very smart.

It is simply a REFERENCE voltage so that ANY 2 amps that are CEA certified can be DIRECTLY compared in terms of power. It could have been 12, it could have been 13, it could have been 14. They reached in the hat and came out with 14.4. It doesn't make a sh|tting bit of difference.

They probably assumed that anyone who cared enough to understand to a reasonable degree of accuracy how much actual power an amp could produce would understand a reference value.

I guess there is always an exception.

no need to be an ***, but i feel it is just a way for the cheaper companies to pad their ratings like they always have. I understand it is a reference voltage you prick. And if they picked 12v and every amp that is rated would put out more than it is rated for i would have been happy.

Since you are such a "smart" douchebag, think about it like this. Two differently designed amplifiers from different manufacturers are going to gain differently from 12 to 13.8 and even to 14.4v. It isn't a completely linear value that the amplifiers will gain from each difference in input voltage. So lets look at the kicker previously mentioned. kx650.4:

12.5v it does 70x4 @4ohms

14.4 it does 120x4 @4ohms

So it drops to 58% of its power just by dropping the input voltage to 12.5v

Lets take an Audison LRX5.1K now:

12.5v it does 52x2 and 156x2 @ 4 ohms

at 14.4 it does 60x2 and 181x2 @ 4 ohms

So it maintains roughly 86% of it's power while dropping the input voltage to 12.5v

This is why i think a more realistic voltage should be used rather than 14.4v because there is no way to say how much power is going to be lost by dropping the input voltage down to what your car is actually going to be resting at. If they would have made it 13.8v or lower i would have been happy. Of course I'm obviously "not very smart" and it doesn't matter what i think.

On a side note, that kicker for 160 bucks is a very nice deal and cea ratings aside they always bench higher than rated even though they react quite drastically to input voltage changes.

Power being specified at at 13.8v tells you no more about an amp than 14.4, or 12, and that's my point. You'd have to know pretty accurately the degree of regulation built into the power supply, and I don't even know how that would be specified.

14.4 is the automotive industry standard for voltage of a running vehicle. It's as good a spec as any.

What you want is standardized power specs at ~14 and ~12. Maybe that's coming, but your argument doesn't support your complaint regarding the 14.4 spec.

you just never know...i have a Monitor 1 rated at 70 x 4 @ 4 ohm THD .04%. I run it bridged so the THD may even be lower at 200 x 2. My amps at idle read 14.2v. The Monitor 1 sounds way cleaner that the DD S4 i had before. But that may also be because it's made by ARPA, same manufacturer as Zapco and Arc Audio. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Mr Bojangles, i would recomend for the budget and "CLEAN" sound you're looking for look into older amps such as PPI, Orion, US amps, Zed built amps like US Acoustics or Hifonics older models. Older Soundstream like the Rubicon or Reference series, older Alpines, US Amps and a/d/s. they're out there and waiting to make your ears happy!!!
