Need answers about Eclipse AVN6600

I have the 5500 and got it this year and the disc it came with has 2006 marked on it. I have not driven all over america but it shows everything in my area, the bay area. I even tested the direction in tacoma,wa since i was thinking of driving there and it was accurate since i know the area up there pretty well. It is region based though. Like if you want to do a search for a certain business you are limited to only one of like 6 regions. Its like northwest, west, sotuh, ect. but it usually covers 4-5 states so i would never imagine needing it that much. and when you are in a new area you just change the region. I have no idea if canada is included though, never even noticed it, but the disc says north america. hope that helps alittle. just noticed you asked about the rest of the world. Outside of possibly canada and mexico there is nothing for navigation, maybe another disc, but im willing to bet you can order one from eclipse if you wanted one for europe or asia.

I have the 6600 I switched it out from the 5500 2 months ago. You will love it. My only complaint is that there is no time alingment or 5.1 you have to get the avn 7000 if you want that. The nav works great I live in KS and I have driven to many place in the country with it and with the 5500 and I get all the data. It even has my house and street which did not even exist 2 1/2 yrs ago. It is a great buy for the money and the dual zone is worth its weight if you have kids.

well here is the deal. i went to a shop that has the 5500 and played with it and really im not impressed at all. it is just like the 5435 just with the newer map. the "street map" is really useless to me. it looked nice, but i had to scroll to detroit to see it. ubt if the who nav was at that angle id take it, but its not. now the dual dvd option i like, but with one being dedicated to nav its kinda getting to me. id like to be able to switch from dvd to music instantly.

i like the sq options, but they arent a big deal for me cause the amps have crossovers and PEQ isnt a huuuuge deal to me either. this is making me reconsider the 5495 or perhaps the 7000. i like the 7000 nav a lot, but there is no music juke and its not a DD. i have a great idea for eclipse. they need to make a DD with the 7000 ultima nav, music juke and such. call it the 7700 and they will sell many.

a part of me still wants the avic-z1 but i can just get the eclipse too cheap to pass up.

if i get the 7000 i would want the 5.1 decoder and an ipod to make it work the way i want. if i get the 5495 id want i better nav software.

does the 5495 have the new 2006 maps or the old maps like the 5345. the new disc doesnt say it is for it, but i dont know. its a hard drive. and if its old can i update it?

this is frustrating.
