Need answer, fish question

Went fishing this afternoon, long story short I caught a fish while fishing for smallies that is freshwater stream/river fish that has a dark green upper body with an orange belly. Shaped like a smallmouth. The only thing is it had no stripes, and it had little knobs or horns (3 or so) on both sides of its head in little groups. The horns didn't seem parasitic since they were symmetrical. Anyone have an idea what type of fish this may be? Area is northern Illinois.

chub, where did you fish? illinois river? Also i was once up in wisconsin flyfishing, my brother and i stopped and asked this old guy and his grandson if they were catching any. They wernt fishing, but ya the kid continued to tell us how him and his grandpa likes to eat them. Thats when i decided it was time to go asap.

Illinois river is too big for my style. I fish in Big Rock, its out towards Sugar Grove if you know the area. Fish on my friends farm pasture, about a mile and a half stretch of creek with 2 ponds and touched by me and about 2 other people, ever. There is also a rock quarry turned into a county park, monster bass in there. My father lives out in Lake Holiday so I'm always out there, crappie are hitting like mad right now. Taking the canoe out to Shabbona Lake is great bass fishing, can go where a motorboat can't. I fish usually daily after work.

lol.. i concure.. sure you can see in my sig. that was first lake i went to and at least went about 5-10 times a year, for lol 16 years.. last year was the first time i did not fish it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif really miss him.. we might have to meet at shabbona one day this summer if thats fine with you.
