I hook my sub up at 4 ohms the sub won't work I hook it up at 1 ohms it works. Like wtf? What would cause that? Both my coils are fine, if I hook the coils up separately they work. But if I hook it up at 4 ohms they don't work. I've checked my wiring, used different wire, checked out if I'm wiring it right, everything. I just don't get it. I need to wire it to 4 ohms is why I'm asking.

I'm guessing you have a dual 2 ohm... If so just ensure your jumping the + of one coil to the - of the other, then just wire the other +/- to your terminal and then to the amp.
this. it sounds like you trying to hook up two of the same polarity on the sub. like VC1- to VC2- when it should be VC1- to VC2+ and then run the VC1+ to the + on the amp and the VC2- to the - on the amp.

it can't be the polarity of the sub (single sub), if he can hook it up at 1 ohm (parallel) and it works than goes to 4 ohms (series) he only has 2 VCs. no matter what he does it can only be 1 way or the other. now if it's 2 subs or more than that's different.

In correct sir. His single sub has two coils so wiring can be(and is most likely) the issue.

no rabbit, you are wrong. if he wires up the + from VC1 to the - from VC2 and than plugs the open - from VC1 to the - of amp and plugs open + from VC2 to the amp he would have his VCs wires in series giving a 4 ohm load. if he wires up the + from VC2 to the - from VC1 and than plugs the open - from VC2 to the - of amp and plugs open + from VC1 to the amp he would have his VCs wires in series giving a 4 ohm load. if he wires all +'s together and all -'s together his wires are in parallel giving a 1 ohm load. this is considering that the OP is not jumping the same VC.

no rabbit, you are dead wrong. if he wires up the + from VC1 to the - from VC2 and than plugs the open - from VC1 to the - of amp and plugs open + from VC2 to the amp he would have his VCs wires in series giving a 4 ohm load. if he wires up the + from VC2 to the - from VC1 and than plugs the open - from VC2 to the - of amp and plugs open + from VC1 to the amp he would have his VCs wires in series giving a 4 ohm load. if he wires all +'s together and all -'s together his wires are in parallel giving a 1 ohm load.
You just said what we said he did wrong. Please reread what was stated prior to posting. Amusing I'm "dead" wrong only makes yourself look foolish, it didn't help that you posted the same thing I did.

I think your failing to see what could be happening. He could have jumped the wrong wires. If he jumped both -'s then ran both +'s to the amp it would not function correctly and give him the results he is experiencing.

i re-read it a few times, please point it out for me b/c I'm reading it has he has wired his sub as series to get a 4 ohm load and he gets no sound. than wires same sub in parallel to get a 1 ohm load and gets sound. only way wiring is an issue is if he is going from + to - on the same coil, which would mean that the OP is indeed not wiring the sub in series.

I just edited my post.

You have to understand that some of us do make mistakes when wiring in a hurry from time to time. No matter if they tell you it is wired right or not, it is 90% of the time wired wrong. I have made this very mistake a few times. All of us have/do from time to time. It is the simple things that we just look over.

touchet, I was giving the guy the benefit of the doubt of actually knowing what he was talking about. you're right it's ca.com and I should have know better.
