Need Advice with stock Sony 10 Speaker System

I just bought a new Ford Escape w/stock Sony 10 speaker system. The sound is not adequate. I can't afford to replace the whole thing at once. Thinking of starting by adding a DSP first. Want to get biggest bang for my buck with 1st addition/replacement. What would you do?

I would start with the front stage since thats IMO the biggest part. I would get a good set of 6.5 components and get an amp on them, most important part will be properly installing them. You will need to deaden your doors at a minimum, there are further treatment steps if you looking to make it top notch. You can get a decent LOC for around 80 if you want to use you factory head unit/radio or go aftermarket.

How much are you looking to spend on this "first step"?

A DSP is a very good item to install, but i would guess with the current speakers being of such low quality it would be wise to take care of the front stage first. Someone chime in if im off

This is helpful. Thanks! I can invest around 1k to 1.5k for the first round. Then look into it again next year.
You looking for a decent system or all out high end?

Planning on using factory radio or aftermarket?

This is a decent deal, good speakers and a solid amp. Of course there is higher end stuff, this will sound pretty good though installed right.

I'm dealing with the Sony amp and 10 speaker system now in my focus st. First thing I did was replace the front speakers followed by replacing the stock sub. I had to run a resistor network because once you pull loads off the stock amps it will overheat and send a bad signal and fry tweets.

I wasn't happy with my old dsp built in my amp so im going external dsp.

First step, front door speakers > dsp> amps>upgrade sub.

Head unit>Doors&amp>sub>dsp*****

Can't get rich sound from crap speakers and a terrible signal. Get your gear right then a dsp will be able to truely bring out the best.

If they have the upgraded sync changing out the head unit might be more problematic if they want to keep all the functions. Using a dsp that will undo the eq from the stock system then allow you to set what you want and need is probably better. On a base system I'd agree but on the upgraded Ford system the head unit isn't bad as far as a clean signal.

Interesting, I'm use to complete crap coming factory installed
